Description:
OVERVIEW
Under the supervision of the Town Engineer, the Engineering Technologist is responsible for providing engineering services for the preparation of tender plans, specifications and related documents. This position will conduct/ assist in project management and contract administration relating to streetlights, traffic lights, sidewalks, municipal roads, buildings, storm, sanitary and water infrastructure. This position inspects and witnesses the installation of sidewalks, roads, water, sanitary, and storm infrastructure to ensure work is being done to specifications and budgetary guidelines. The position is also responsible for updating and maintaining the Town’s Geographic Information System (GIS).
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
The Engineering Technologist shall have a two (2) year certificate or diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or equivalent. The candidate should have at least five (5) years’ experience with a related engineering background. A CET or equivalent designation would be considered an asset.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
- Computer proficiency in MS Office Suite including, Word, Excel, Outlook
- Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Experience with GIS databases would be considered an asset but hands on training will be provided
- Experience conducting topographic surveys
- Considerable knowledge of municipal engineering principles, practices and methods
- Budgeting and contract administration experience
- Experience in a municipal environment would be considered an asset

Pay: $60,000.00-$75,000.00 per year

Responsibilities:
- Provide engineering design services for capital infrastructure projects including preparing and drafting design drawings, specifications and cost estimates for various projects
- Perform topographic and as built surveys
- Compile and keep accurate and complete infrastructure records including maintaining and updating the Town’s GIS system
- Be part of the towns Asset Management team
- Manage contracts and project administration, including budgets, and monitor contractor’s work ensuring all OH&S standards are met, and construction inspection
- Responsible for maintaining traffic and pedestrian lights including timings/synchronization/capital planning/maintenance/trouble shooting
- Administration of municipal projects and/or initiatives
- Liaise with regulatory authorities
- Prepare tenders, requests for proposals, etc.
- Prepare reports for regulatory bodies
- React to requests, complaints and concerns of residents
- Assist public works such as ordering materials, surveying, etc.
- Any other related work required by the Town Engineer
