    We are currently seeking a suitably qualified Research Technician to support Applied Entomology projects in
    Applied BioSciences

. Reporting to the Head of Applied BioSciences, the role will include a range of research support activities, including:

  • Maintain and prepare equipment and materials for Entomology experiments;
  • Conduct bioassays and collect insect samples;
  • Collect chemical samples and assist with routine processing by GC-MS;
  • Enter data into spreadsheets, and maintain spreadsheets for analysis;
  • Maintain insect colonies;
  • Assist with general laboratory organisation;
  • Work with research fellows, research students and research partners to ensure the smooth operation of diverse Entomology research projects.

Essential:

  • Relevant degree in Entomology, Agriculture, or Biological Science, or a closely related discipline and/or experience;
  • Knowledge and skills in the conduct of entomology experiments;
  • Knowledge and skills in basic laboratory research;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to compile and organise data in Excel;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Experience working in a team-based environment with the ability to relate to and engage with other staff, research students and external partners across diverse backgrounds.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience with the conduct of behavioural bioassays or chemical ecology
  • Familiarity with Applied Entomology, Biosecurity, or Pest Management
  • Willingness to travel to partner organisations or to the field to support inter-institutional collaborations

Salary Package: Level 5 From $83,580 to $95,029 p.a., plus 17% employer’s superannuation and annual leave loading.
Appointment Type: Full-time, fixed term initially for 2 years, with a possibility of extension.
