ENVIRONMENT SPECIALIST
The Hamilton-Oshawa Port Authority (HOPA Ports) is seeking a detail-oriented, organized and proactive individual to join our team.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
· Bachelor’s Degree or College Diploma – Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Environmental Studies, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related field
· Minimum 2 years of recent full-time professional level experience in environmental affairs.
· Industrial, Construction or Manufacturing experience considered an asset
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
· Working understanding of environmental legislation
· Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
· Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
· Intermediate MS Office including Word, Excel and Outlook
· Must be able to work independently and in a team environment

Responsibilities:
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
Under the direction of the Manager, Environment and Energy, the Environmental Specialist supports the organization’s environmental programs and sustainability initiatives, project development, regulatory compliance, field monitoring and due diligence activities. In addition, this role will serve as an internal subject matter expert for environmental issues and education.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
In conjunction with the Manager, Environment and Energy, you will provide expertise and support in the following areas including but not limited to:
· Develop environmental priorities and implement performance improvement opportunities.
· Provide internal subject manner expertise to staff regarding environmental matters including environmental compliance, project implementation and commercial strategies.
· Plan and coordinate environmental work carried out by consultants including environmental site assessments, ecological assessments and archaeological assessments.
· Support environmental compliance activities including permit applications, compliance audits and reporting.
· Conduct environmental field sampling.
· Complete environmental benchmarking.
· Cultivate relationships with port stakeholders and represent the port at local environmental committee meetings.
