Description:

The Environment TD is responsible for providing technical support to maintain and improve department workflows. This role requires a strong technical understanding of Houdini, it being the primary package used by Environments Dept. They coordinate with Dept. leadership, Pipeline and show supervisors to identify and build efficient and intuitive tools for artists to use in creating photo-realistic environments. They have a strong technical skillset supported by sound creative ability which allows them to work in shot context when required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous experience in an Environment or generalist TD role within the VFX industry, contributing to photo-realistic feature films or television shows
  • In-depth knowledge of Houdini and 3D Environment workflows
  • Strong knowledge of Python and VEX
  • Proven experience in pipeline and tool development, specifically city generation and procedural assets
  • Experience in creating photo-realistic environments and related shot work
  • Highly proficient in troubleshooting of scripts, scene files, templates and tools
  • Sound creative & artistic ability and understanding. Ability to apply and translate these skills to a technical brief and objective
  • Strong capability to work independently, take initiative and problem solve
  • Capable of writing documentation and generating supporting material
  • Good communication skills and ability to effectively convey technical concepts & processes to HoDs and artists
  • Previous experience with Solaris and USD preferred
  • Previous experience of Vray preferred
  • Experience in other 3D software such as Maya, 3DS Max, Speedtree and Gaea preferred
    This salary range is specific to applicants applying to our position in Vancouver, BC. To determine your base salary, we consider your qualifications, skills, and experience. Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the Houdini Environment workflow and develop tools with department HoDs and Pipeline
  • Identify strengths, weaknesses in the workflow and where efficiency can be gained
  • Troubleshoot errors and bugs in scene files across software packages
  • Flexibility to be responsible for shot work when necessary
  • Be responsive to feedback and requests, evaluate turnaround time for resolution
  • Clearly and concisely track workflow for current and future reference / training in the form of documentation, videos and live sessions with the team members
  • Communicate department technical problems and requirements clearly with HoDs
  • Coordinate with artists to improve tools intuitiveness and optimization
  • Help research and identify potential new 3rd party tools which can be adopted by the department or developed in-house
  • Stay up to date with latest industry technological developments which affect department workflows
