Description:

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

We are the Design and Engineering partner for Sellafield under the Programme and Project Partners (PPP). This is a 20-year arrangement to deliver ~£7bn of major projects. We are looking to recruit high value expertise from across regulated and comparable sectors to work in a collaborative environment. PPP is delivering major projects, site wide improvements and provision of supporting services.
Being part of the PPP Team offers a unique opportunity to drive change and innovation in engineering, safety and delivery solutions in one of the most complex industrial sites in the UK if not the world. We are looking for people who are passionate about developing themselves and in meeting new challenges.
The Sludge Handling and Export Plant (SH&EP) will treat sludge, originating from one of the highest hazard facilities at Sellafield, into a form suitable for long-term storage and disposal. SH&EP is currently in the early stages of project development.
The project involves both ‘wet process’ and mechanical handling/movement systems. The facility design needs to achieve high plant availability, so the application of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) principles is key. Challenges associated with the facility location drive the requirement for modularised build techniques and Modern Methods of Construction. As a new facility, sustainability features highly within the design considerations.

We are currently recruiting for a Environmental Advisor to provide;

  • Provision of environmental management guidance and support, working collaboratively with the project team to produce environmental deliverables.
  • Provide technical advice to the project team on regulatory compliance, sustainability and other environmental subjects.
  • Support the Environmental Manager and Sustainability Lead in the identification and development of sustainability opportunities, to develop the project’s contribution to Carbon Net Zero and to meet permitting requirements in delivering the project using Best Available Techniques.
  • Provide environmental assurance within the project, including contribution to assurance reviews and delivery of Environmental Audits
  • Assist with the development and delivery of land quality assessments, to support the Town and Country Planning Application process and Sellafield Ltd requirements.
  • Draw on, and share, relevant Learning From Experience (LFE).
  • Support the Environmental Manager in developing and delivering a programme to enhance the environmental culture and the environmental awareness within the project/ study

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Broad knowledge of environmental management, including the areas of land quality assessment, sustainability and environmental permitting, with specialist knowledge in at least one of these.
  • Proven ability of working collaboratively within a project team.
  • Highly preferable to have familiarity with the Sellafield site, especially experience of high-hazard related projects and plants.
  • Highly preferable to have familiarity with the Environmental Permitting Regulations, including Sellafield’s EPR permits.
