Key Requirements:

  • Scientific background desired but not essential.
  • Previous experience working in an abattoir or food manufacturing business would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of ISO 14001 environmental management systems
  • Knowledge of environmental legislation desired
  • Knowledge of effluent treatment plant operations
  • High level of attention to detail is essential with strong IT skills (particularly in relation to the Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Excellent standards of written and spoken English are essential to ensure the building of comprehensive relationships with key stakeholders
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and negotiating skills essential
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Capable of making sound business suggestions

As Environmental and Sustainability Coordinator at Kepak McIntosh Donald, you will play a crucial role supporting delivery of Environmental and Sustainability programs at site. You will be working closely with our Technical department, assisting in the identification of opportunities for the strategic development of Environmental and Sustainability initiatives, supporting and driving the progression through the Environmental & Sustainability Action Plan.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To manage, maintain and develop the environmental management system in accordance with regulatory, ISO 14001, customer and Kepak requirements to continually improve the impact of the organisation on the environment.
  • Ensure that all aspects of the site’s environmental compliance license are monitored, implemented and controlled.
  • Implement environmental strategies and action plans, to ensure corporate sustainable development in line with site and Group strategic objectives
  • Coordinate all aspects of pollution control, waste management, recycling, environmental, conservation and renewable energy.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental legislation and keep up to date with UK , relevant international regulation and legislation in conjunction with Group environmental policies and practices.
  • Oversee the management of the effluent treatment plant system
  • Liaise with relevant bodies such as local authorities, public bodies and competent authorities on environmental matters.
  • To maintain the site’s legal compliance register using Red On-Line.
  • Audit, analyse and report environmental performance to internal and external stakeholders as required.
  • Carry out assessments to identify, assess and reduce the site environmental impacts
  • Promote and raise awareness with site teams of the impact of emerging environmental issues.
  • Working with the Training Co-Ordinator, identify training for staff at all levels on environmental issues and responsibilities, delivering training as required.
  • Participate in relevant environmental education and research (with appropriate approval).
  • Working with site management, negotiating environmental service agreements and manage associated costs and revenues, and with Operations Manager to set site sustainability targets, developing plans to meet those targets and oversee their delivery.
  • Working with site purchasing and operations teams for sustainable procurement for all goods and services
