Description:

About the team we are recruiting to
We value diverse perspectives and experiences and are striving to create a workplace culture that is inclusive, is accepting of all and is free from discrimination and bias.
The Property Licensing & Housing Enforcement team is responsible for regulating and inspecting houses in multiple occupation (HMOs), which are properties that are shared by more than one household. The team ensures that HMOs comply with the relevant standards of safety, amenities, management, and occupancy. The team issues licenses to landlords who operate HMOs and takes enforcement action against those who fail to meet their legal obligations or cause nuisance or harm to their tenants or neighbours.
You will be part of a dynamic and collaborative team that works together to achieve the best outcomes for the city and its residents. You will have the opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of thousands of people who live in HMOs, by ensuring effective waste management at HMOs. You will also contribute to the wider goals of the organisation, such as tackling the causes and consequences of climate change and ensuring our city centre remains clean and tidy for residents and visitors to enjoy.
You will not be alone in this challenging and rewarding role. You will be supported by your colleagues, managers, and mentors, who will share their expertise and experience with you. You will also be part of a friendly and inclusive work environment, where diversity is valued and celebrated. Whether you are new to the profession or have years of experience, you will find a place in our team where you can grow, learn, and thrive.
If you are passionate about protecting and improving the public health and safety, and you want to be part of a vibrant and diverse team, then we would love to hear from you. Apply now and join us in making Coventry a better place to live, work, and visit.
We encourage and enable agile working, whether from the office or from home. You will have a laptop, tablet, and a mobile phone to help you work flexibly and effectively. You will also have the chance to improve your skills and knowledge through frequent training and feedback. We work in the recently built One Friargate office building, in the heart of the city. Conveniently located next to Coventry Railway Station, and the ring road.
What is the job role?
As an environmental case officer, you will work closely with the environmental health officers to investigate and enforce waste mismanagement in HMOs. You will carry out inspections and surveys of HMOs to identify any issues with waste storage, collection, or disposal. You will also respond to complaints and reports of fly-tipping, littering, or illegal dumping of waste from HMOs.
You will use your powers to issue fixed penalty notices, statutory notices, or prosecution proceedings to the offenders.
You will be part of a motivated and friendly team that values your contribution and supports your development. You will have access to regular training and mentoring to enhance your skills and knowledge. You will be able to work flexibly and efficiently, using the latest technology and equipment to support your work. This is a varied and interesting role that will allow you to make a positive impact on the environment and the community. If you are passionate about the environment and waste management, then apply now and join us in our journey.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for someone who has experience or interest in the enforcement aspect of environmental health. If you have previous experience in enforcement, whether in environmental health or another field, we would love to hear from you. If you do not have enforcement experience yet, but you are keen to learn and develop in this area, we will provide you with the necessary training and support.
