Environmental Compliance Specialist - (15 month contract to cover a maternity leave)

(CWL) is seeking a dynamic and experienced Environmental Compliance Specialist to join our team!

Our Environmental Compliance Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring that our operations meet all local, provincial, and federal regulations while promoting a culture of continuous improvement and environmental responsibility.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure Regulatory Compliance: Oversee and manage all aspects of regulatory compliance, including local, provincial, and federal regulations related to waste management and environmental protection. Stay up-to-date with changes in regulations and ensure all CWL operations adhere to the highest standards.
- Lead Site Inspections and Audits: Coordinate and lead annual compliance internal audits, manage external audits, and conduct regular inspections of CWL facilities to identify and mitigate potential compliance issues.
- Maintain Accurate Records and Reporting: Ensure accurate documentation of operations, environmental incidents, and compliance data. Prepare and submit required reports to regulatory agencies on time.
- Provide Training and Guidance: Offer training and guidance to staff on compliance-related matters, including waste tracking, environmental legislation, and protection measures.
- Manage Environmental Incidents: Lead the response to environmental incidents such as spills, ensuring that corrective actions are promptly implemented and reported.
- Act as a Liaison: Serve as the primary point of contact with regulatory authorities, handling approvals, coordinating inspections, and overseeing responses to compliance issues.
- Develop and Implement Policies: Craft and implement policies that support compliance and reduce environmental risks in CWL’s operations, from landfill management to waste collection.
- Drive Continuous Improvement: Constantly seek ways to enhance compliance efforts, reduce environmental impacts, and adopt new technologies or practices to benefit CWL’s operations.
