Mott MacDonald’s growing Environmental practice supports our business across Canada with expertise in range of specialties. As our team expands in-line with our corporate strategy our project demands are ever-growing. Our projects include a diverse portfolio supporting our transportation, transit and energy teams. Our Canadian offices are in Toronto, Vancouver, and Calgary. In addition to both leading and supporting projects in Canada, we support the delivery of projects for Mott MacDonald’s clients across the US and globally.
We are currently seeking a environmental professional, with 10 to 15 years of experience, to join our team in Toronto. This candidate will initially focus on the delivery of the Scarborough Subway Extension, specifically in the role of Environmental Design Discipline Lead. Working closely with the construction team and owner’s staff, the candidate will be the key individual supporting the design team in meeting project and regulatory environmental requirements. Following the Scarborough Subway Extension project, the candidate will be assigned to other major projects to respond to business needs.
The ideal candidate will possess a sound academic and technical background in environmental management, have general knowledge of environmental policies and approvals at the local, provincial and federal levels, and some experience environmental management plans and systems. The candidate must be able to demonstrate effective communication of technical analysis. Experience with technical stakeholder engagement is desired.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS THE FOLLOWING EXPERIENCE:

  • 10 - 15 years of previous professional experience;
  • Designation or ability to be recognized as a Qualified Person under O.Reg. 153/05 and O.Reg. 406/19;
  • Experience with Excess Soil Management and associated plan development;
  • Demonstrated experience working on transportation and/or transit projects;
  • Knowledge of and experience in permitting requirements at the federal, provincial and municipal level in Ontario;
  • Experience with Environmental Management Systems under ISO 14001 and associated standards;
  • Strong written and oral communication skills including the communication of complex technical information to non-technical audiences;
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills;
  • Demonstrable background in working both independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team; and a history of achieving milestones and meeting deadlines.

Responsibilities:

  • Liaising between the design team and construction team;
  • Preparing and reviewing design submittals as it relates to environmental conformance;
  • Working with design engineers to understand project requirements and the direct and indirect implication on infrastructure design;
  • Leading environmental technical staff within alternative procurement model infrastructure project(s);
  • Contributing to the management of and changes to the environmental approvals for a major transit project;
  • Providing planning and environmental approval advice to project teams and clients;
  • Working with specialist sub-consultants to ensure successful delivery of a project;
  • Working collaboratively as part of integrated project teams;
  • Identifying project risks and managing those risks within the overall project management framework; and,Support the development of proposals and bid submissions, including providing costing and scheduling inputs.
