Responsibilities:

Do you have a passion for research, technical writing, and environmental science? Terracon is looking for a Staff Scientist to join the team in our Sparks, MD office. Nationally, our firm is a leading provider of Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) and related Due Diligence services and we continue to expand these services in the Maryland and Pennsylvania area. As part of our growing Due Diligence team, you will engage with clients to evaluate environmental risks associated with their property transactions and business interests. Responsibilities will include Phase I ESAs and related Due Diligence reviews encompassing a wide variety of project types and properties. You will have an opportunity to evaluate environmental risks and educate clients on how they relate to their business interests. To be successful in this role, you will need experience performing Phase I Environmental Site Assessments, preferably with experience across a wide array of property types. Projects may include Phase I and II ESAs, tank closure assessments, and limited site investigations. This position would require occasional overnight travel.
In addition to Due Diligence, our firm leads the industry in industrial hygiene services, natural resource studies, including wetland and stream assessments, threatened and endangered species, environmental permitting and NEPA assessments. This position may be involve assisting with industrial hygiene and natural resource studies across Maryland and southern Pennsylvania.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Follow safety rules, guidelines, and standards for all projects. Participate in pre-task planning. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
  • Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.
  • Proficient scientific professional responsible for conducting site testing and making recommendations for smaller projects of minimal complexity.
  • May assist more senior scientists/engineers on large, more complex projects.
  • Performs site visits, field observations, and field data collection or assignments.
  • Assist in the collection and analysis of data from sampling, research, maps, and reports.
  • Evaluates moderately complex laboratory and field data and assembles in written reports.
  • Draft written proposals to clients for small projects and may assist with portions of proposals on larger projects.
  • May serve as team member and participate in meetings and communications with client pertaining to specific projects/tasks.
  • Experienced with ASTM Phase I ESA standard (most recent standard).
