Our environmental health officers play a vital role in community and environmental protection. As part of a small team serving two districts and a population of 270,000, you will be delivering professional environmental health assessments and outcomes for positive health and wellbeing, public protection, community safety and good local environmental quality. This post is part of a dynamic, influential small team that is recognised for its commitment and determination to make a difference.
You will lead on areas of thematic working and in an assigned geographic area. As a strong and inclusive communicator with a demonstrable aptitude for inspiring people and positive change, you can look forward to innovative approaches and working collaboratively with a wide range of colleagues.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING…

  • Leading the response to community concerns and setting the agenda to deal with nuisance, environmental crime and anti-social behaviour issues in a defined area.
  • Investigating community concerns and complaints, protecting the local environment and dealing with nuisance and other environmental protection matters.
  • Making informal and formal assessments, problem-solving plans and interventions.
  • Taking enforcement action including statutory notices and noise equipment seizure, and giving evidence in legal proceedings as necessary.
  • Undertaking measurements, environmental surveys and any other enquiries to gather information as necessary
  • Liaising and negotiating with duty-holders, contractors and consultants as necessary, and ensuring that regulatory obligations and responsibilities are complied with.
  • Providing professional advice to internal and external partners, including the analysis of specialist reports, to secure the best outcomes for local communities.
  • Working proactively for the betterment of people’s health and environments.
