POSITION OVERVIEW
Provide administrative and technical advice to Council to enable it to fulfil its function under the SA Public Health
Act, Food Act, Local Government Act, Environmental Protection Act, Local Nuisance and Litter Act and
associated regulations and codes. Under direction from Senior Officers, review and help prepare
recommendations to Council on policy matters which will assist in the coordination of development and
environmental services within the area in an orderly and proper manner. To participate in the delivery of efficient
and effective customer service in which consistent and accurate advice is provided at a high standard.
SKILLS
- Knowledge of the Acts, Regulations and Codes administered by the Business Unit.
- Knowledge of the Local Government Act and ancillary legislation associated with
Local Government.
- Knowledge of Health Services programs, procedures and activities.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and manage relationships with internal
stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively engage with external stakeholders including
government agencies, professional associations, private sector, industry and the
community.
- Understanding of economic, environmental and legislative issues impacting public
health and environmental management.
- Report writing skills.
- Ability to exercise initiative and judgement when applying policies and procedures.

- Ability to read and analyse plans and specifications and to source and interpret
relevant information.
- Ability to learn and implement change.
- Sound knowledge of customer service principles.
- Intermediate ICT skills.
QUALIFICATIONS
Essential
- Appointment as an Environmental Health-Officer/Authorised Officer, or have
eligibility, under the SA Public Health Act and Food Act.
Desirable
- Eligible for appointment as a Food Safety Auditor under the Food Act 2001.
- Eligible for appointment as a Safe Drinking Water Act Inspector or Auditor.

EXPERIENCE
Essential
- Experience in undertaking investigations, planning and regulatory processes as they
relate to Health Services.
- Experience in inspecting and monitoring premises for compliance with statutory
requirements.
Desirable
- Experience in current environmental health issues and experience in the
development of strategies and policies related to environmental health
environment.
- Previous experience in a customer service environment.
Licences/Tickets Essential
- Drivers Licence (Class C)
- Working with Children’s Clearance (WWCC)
