Overview:
SiREM, an operating division of Geosyntec Consultants is seeking an Environmental Laboratory Technician to join our team in Guelph, ON. The position will perform laboratory testing procedures related to molecular genetic testing and treatability testing; provide neat, accurate, and comprehensive documentation of all laboratory related activities being performed, and compile and review data for reports, while working cooperatively with other members of the laboratory team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

- Performs general laboratory duties and housekeeping: provide support for laboratory testing, including: pipetting, measuring, sampling, data entry, etc.;
- Performs laboratory tests including: molecular genetic tests and treatability testing;
- Records test results on standardized forms and write test reports describing procedures used;
- Prepare and ship SiREM sampling kits (or products) upon customers’ requests; inform customers on logistics and keep documentation of customer communications;
- Prepares graphs and charts;
- Cleans and sterilizes laboratory equipment;
- Calibrates laboratory instruments;
- Prepares chemical solutions according to standard procedures and protocols;
- Provides neat, accurate, and comprehensive documentation of all laboratory-related activities, as required;
- Provides assistance in the preparation of final reports, work plans, health and safety documents, and the assembly of report appendices, as needed;
- Observes and abides by the policies and procedures outlined in the company’s Environmental, Health, and Safety Management online policies and procedures; and
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Training: This position will requires WHMIS training, and may require OSHA hazardous communication, first aid, or CPR training and medical monitoring, paid for by the firm.
- Work Environment: While performing the duties of the job, the individual will work in the laboratory; the individual will be trained to work with fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals under safe controlled conditions wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (e.g., laboratory coats, safety glasses, gloves) and engineering controls (e.g., fume hoods, elephant trunks). The individual is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the environment is moderate.
- Some fieldwork and overnight travel may be required from time to time.

Education and Licensure:
- Associate’s degree (U.S.) or College diploma (Canada) in biotechnology or related field. (required)
Skills, Experience and Qualifications:
- At least 2 years of directly applicable environmental microbiology or chemistry including experimental set-up and operation experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
- Ability to monitor several different types of studies and laboratory activities simultaneously. (preferred)
- Experience with data input and analysis, including preparing tables and figures (proficiency with MS Office applications, including Excel. (required)
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, be self-motivated and possess a strong work ethic. (required)
- Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 49 pounds unaided and 50-100 pounds with assistance and/or proper engineering controls. (required)
- Ability to regularly use hands to grip, grasp, finger, handle, or feel; and to sit, stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms; climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. (required)
