Description:

BACKGROUND/QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum of grade 12
Knowledge of WHMIS and first aid
Certificate in building operations and/or 2-3 years’ experience in a maintenance environment
Computer skills (e.g., proficient in Word and Excel, must be familiar with on line ordering systems and electronic building systems)
Demonstrated leadership skills (e.g., Verve Senior Living Competencies)
Communication skills written and verbal in English
Ability to read and interpret manual and drawings related to equipment and systems and audit/deficiency standards
Ability to organize, multitask and meet the physical demands of the job, including problem solving and dealing with emergency situations
Ability to be detail & task oriented
Ability to meet targets & deadlines

Responsibilities:

ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVES:

Under the direction of the general manager, responsible for performing a variety of routine maintenance, service and repair operations to maintain facility, equipment, furnishings, fixtures and grounds in accordance with applicable guidelines, codes, vision, values and standards of Verve Senior Living.
Works with Housekeeping to ensure residents’ needs are met and the building quality, cleanliness and safety standards are upheld.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversees the delivery and performance of the maintenance services ensuring applicable legislative guidelines, codes and expectations are met
  • Performs a variety of routine maintenance, servicing and repairs to maintain the home, equipment, furnishings, fixtures and grounds in optimal condition
  • Ensures the overall efficient operation of building systems, including HVAC, electrical, mechanical, security and communication systems
  • Establishes and manages a preventative maintenance program, including daily, weekly, monthly and annual inspections, periodic testing of life safety systems and keeps required records of test results as per Diversicare/Verve policies and procedures
  • Responds to all service requests promptly and maintains records of services provided
  • Works in conjunction with Marketing to refurbish suites to optimal condition to prepare for new move-ins ensuring any damage costs are invoiced to previous tenant
  • Cooperates and collaborates with other departments in such tasks as assisting residents with maintenance needs, moving and storing supplies, furnishings and equipment as well a being available and flexible to resident, family needs, as required.
  • Monitors service contracts and warranties to ensure equipment and environment conform to applicable codes and regulations, and ensures external contractor provide proof of WCB and criminal records checks
  • Maintains accurate control of all Master keys
  • Performs outside work such as gardening, snow removal, and sanding, salting or environmental spills as required
  • Contributes towards and participates in the ongoing fire prevention, infection control and pest control programs in the home
  • BC: Ensures regular fire drills are conducted and documented
  • Supports all departments increasing efficiency & resident occupancy
  1. Serves as a member of the leadership team and contributes to the overall operations of the residence in alignment with the vision and values of Verve Senior Living:
  • Participates in the strategic planning process
  • Participates and contributes during the operations meeting
  • Participates in Verve Quality Improvement (VQI)
  • Makes recommendations regarding development/modification to policies and procedures
  1. Participates in and supports the financial management of the residence
  • Provides input into the preparation of the capital and operational budgets,
  • Manages the department finance (budget) including inventory
  • Reviews and promotes initiatives that generate revenue
  • Provides input for variance reports on financial statements
