Education (degree/diploma/certifications)

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in the design and delivery of environmental public education and community engagement materials and programs.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILL/ABILITY

  • Thorough working knowledge of Provincial/Municipal solid waste management and waste diversion programs, solid waste and recyclables collection, waste segregation, yard waste composting, household hazardous waste programs, electronics recycling, legislation/regulations related to MECP & RPRA compliance, risk management, climate change initiatives impacting solid waste, environmental education and community engagement techniques, event planning, marketing methods, social media, the Occupational Health and Safety Act, business planning/budgeting, and project management.
  • Specific knowledge of the Waste Free Ontario Act and Strategy for a Waste-Free Ontario, Resource Recovery and Circular Economy Act (RRCEA) and the Resource Productivity & Recovery Authority (RPRA), Environmental Protection Act, Environmental Assessment Act, Ontario Regulation 347 (Waste Management) and other applicable regulations, sustainable waste management trends, environmental risk management and compliance, stakeholder engagement best practices, and environmental education and promotion in a municipal context. Understanding of Municipal Waste by-laws and compliance issues/trends, and City of Barrie environmental by-laws and policies including its Climate Change Adaptation Strategy, Circular Economy Program, and Sustainable Waste Management Strategy. Sound understanding of the Provincial Blue Box Transition policies and application of such.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, community engagement, change management, curriculum development, program design/implementation, presentation, work prioritization, marketing, volunteer development and relationship management skills.
  • Excellent team collaboration skills; ability to foster and contribute to a positive, productive, service driven work environment; and to deal courteously and effectively with all contacts.
  • Computer literacy utilizing the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PPT, Outlook, Access, Teams, Project Management), Visio, Social Media, graphics and illustration software (Adobe, Photoshop), GIS, SAP, and the internet as a research tool.
  • Knowledge of, and demonstrated ability in, corporate core competences including customer service, communication, teamwork, initiative/self-management and accountability, and flexibility/adaptability

Location: City Hall, 70 Collier Street, Barrie, Ontario*

  • Please note that the City has a Hybrid Work Program Policy in place that may allow for a hybrid work arrangement for employees who meet eligibility requirements.

Hours: The normal hours of work are 35 hours per week in accordance with the Collective Agreement.

Wage: This position is within the CUPE Local 2380 Bargaining Unit with the following pay level and 2024 pay range:

  • Pay Level: Level 7
  • Yearly Salary: $67,704.00 to $81,135.60
  • Hourly Pay Rate: $37.20 to $44.58
