SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Cert IV in Environmental Management and Sustainability or equivalent.
  • Cert or Diploma in Project Management (desirable)
  • Working knowledge of Australian environmental legislation, standards, regulations, and principles.
  • Working knowledge of Water and/or Industrial Trade Waste treatment.
  • Working knowledge of management systems, including LEAN, HACCP, WHS.
  • Competency in SCADA systems and Microsoft Office.
  • Pollution incident response experience, including Hazmat.
  • Familiarity with SAP.
  • Current Working in Confined Space ticket or willingness to obtain one.
  • Ability to work onsite 5 days a week.

Responsibilities:

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

This role manages and ensures all Trade Waste, Water, and Wastewater treatment activities are carried out in a reliable, environmentally scientific, and competent manner. The role focuses on improving treatment processes using HACCP standards across the site, ensuring that plant and equipment are maintained efficiently and safely. Collaborating with the Environmental Team, the role aims to meet the requirements of our environmental licenses and standards. Responsibilities include managing the operation of the liquid trade waste plant, recycled water plant, beverages water treatment plant, and liquid and solid waste management.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinate and manage the operation and maintenance of the site’s trade waste plant, water recycling plant, beverages water treatment plant, and other plants in line with reliability requirements, the Site Environmental Management Plan, Site Strategy, Corporate Standards, Government Regulations, and agreed Budgets.
  • Manage and operate the trade waste laboratory, including conducting field and laboratory tests and analyses, presenting results in graphic and written form, controlling the quality and quantity of laboratory supplies, checking, calibrating, and maintaining equipment.
  • Ensure the sensitive biology of the activated sludge is preserved and maintained by regular slide preparation, staining, and observing results under the microscope, and reporting on findings.
  • Identify, support, and evaluate resource efficiency/productivity and environmental opportunities and projects.
  • Action and influence LEAN, cost-down initiatives, and continuous improvement projects, delivering best practice processes and technology within the area of control.
  • Ensure employees work within all appropriate standards for the department (ISO, HACCP, Food Safety reporting, Supply Chain, Waste Management), including the Conditions of Entry.
  • Work with project teams, both internal and external, to identify, investigate, and implement water and wastewater treatment improvement projects.
  • Deliver team and project outcomes within budget by tracking costs, KPIs, and developing effective reporting mechanisms with the Environmental Manager and Environmental Team.
  • Maintain effective communication with the Environmental Team on daily operations and ensure the effective management of employee leave entitlements to minimize interruption of operations.
  • Assist the Environmental Manager with implementing contingency plans and provide advice on the impact of unexpected events, taking appropriate action when water and wastewater problems arise.
  • Deliver high-quality customer service and constructive culture to internal customers, contractors, and suppliers.
  • Act as an active contributing member of the Emergency Response Team within the role of Pollution Incident Response.
  • Ensure the team, including casual staff, complete the required training for their job role, including Training Checklists, WHS training related to their tasks, and all Mandatory Training by the due date.
  • Ensure Kronos data entry is correct and in line with the applicable industrial instrument conditions.
  • Assist in forecasting labour requirements and recommend changes in equipment and work layout, production methods, and material handling procedures.
  • Actively contribute and demonstrate commitment to maintaining a culture within the department that is aligned with Company values, maintaining good morale and attitudes.
