Description:

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • College Diploma (three (3) year) in environmental science or engineering technology.
  • Two (2) years of current experience in an environmental science field including experience in environmental restoration, water resources, pollution abatement and application of environmental principles.
  • Required to work in confined spaces with the appropriate training.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of environmental legislation, technology, hydrological, ecological, statistical and environmental principles and practices.

SKILLS:

  • Strong analytical and organizational skills with well developed communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Exceptional customer service skills with a strong sense of public service and cooperation, and well developed abilities to deal with the public and citizens’ groups.
  • Well-developed computer skills with knowledge of a wide range of software programs and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite software programs.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Availability to work flexible hours.
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements (i.e. field work) of the job.
  • Proven completion of Ministry of Labour Worker Health and Safety Awareness training.
  • A demonstrated commitment to enhancing a safety culture.
  • Proof of education will be required upon hire.
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s Licence, Class “G” with a clean driving record.

Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE:

Responsible for the documentation and analysis of environmental data derived from environmental monitoring programs; to implement the Basement Flood Alleviation and environmental education programs and involvement in the implementation of the St. Catharines Pollution Control Plan (PCP).

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

  • Conduct environmental public education programs.
  • Document, analyze, evaluate and interpret environmental data derived from environmental projects and programs.
  • Prepare documentation and technical reports including concise summary briefs for environmental projects and programs.
  • Prepare and maintain environmental data in electronic formats suitable for sewer system and water quality modelling including appropriate quality control protocols.
  • Liaise between the Corporation and other government, private or public agencies or groups or citizens regarding Division education and environmental projects and programs.
  • Perform environmental field work including beach placarding programs, using the required protocols, on an as required basis.
  • Assist with the implementation of special environment related projects as assigned.
