Here is your opportunity to work with a team of Environmental Specialists by providing field and technical support on projects that require environmental sampling and monitoring, noise and vibration testing, the compilation and interpretation of data, and comparison of the data to accepted guidelines and standards.

- Perform noise and vibration investigations to evaluate the impacts of construction and traffic, by setting up and calibrating equipment, collecting and summarizing data, and routinely interacting with citizens who have made noise or vibration complaints
- Conduct environmental sampling and monitoring by collecting and preserving water, gas, sediment or sludge samples, completing chain-of-custody documentation, and taking samples to the analytical laboratory for analysis
- Prepare charts, tables, reports, and representing results/ data using Google Apps and equipment-specific software
- Maintain accurate and complete field records and project files
- Conduct safety and environmental inspections of work areas, maintain appropriate documentation and implement corrective action, as work is often conducted in and around traffic, involves electrical equipment and chemicals, and/or done in adverse weather conditions
- Assist the Environmental Specialists in investigating and monitoring site-specific environmental test programs
- Interact at all stages of the projects with project managers, engineers, construction crews, regulators, contractors, safety advisors and the public
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- A completed 2-year diploma in an appropriate technologist program, such as Environmental Technology or Civil Engineering Technology
- Minimum 2 years experience related to the work described above; must include experience related to environmental sampling involving field work, soil and water sampling, noise & vibration sampling
- Must be eligible to be recognized as a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) with ASET
- Technical knowledge and experience in soil and water sampling techniques and reporting
- Technical knowledge and experience in noise & vibration monitoring techniques and reporting
- Understanding of basic scientific principles and environmental science
SKILLS REQUIRED FOR SUCCESS:
- Knowledge of the following regulatory documents and their replacements and amendments:
- Alberta Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act and Regulations
- Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations
- City of Edmonton Noise and Vibration Guidelines and industry practice approaches
- City of Edmonton Noise Bylaw
- City Urban Traffic Noise Policy C506
- City of Edmonton Epcor Drainage Services and Wastewater Treatment Bylaw
- Environmental Quality Guidelines for Alberta Surface Waters
- Alberta Tier 1 Soil and Groundwater Remediation Guidelines
- Ability to read and interpret environmental reports, plans, specifications, diagrams, and charts
- Proficient in summarizing administrative and technical information for review in a manner that is clear, and understandable
- Ability to use computer software including MS Office and Google applications
- Skilled in data entry and data maintenance, mathematics
- Familiarity with engineering practices and terminology in environmental science and vibration and noise science and engineering is required
