POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Epic Manager is responsible for providing vision, leadership, and strategic direction in the integration of technology into practice through innovative implementation. This role oversees the Epic Training team and other Epic applications. This role includes developing and maintaining system use documentation and training materials, as well as analyzing system usage data to identify opportunities for improvement. The Epic Manager also oversees the effective incorporation of technology by implementing comprehensive training strategies, which involves the development, ongoing maintenance, evaluation, and execution of all curricula and courses related to the Epic system.
The Epic Manager is responsible for identifying and monitoring quality improvement processes, while consulting with others. This includes leading change management in training practices to ensure they align with clinical and other orientation and educational offerings. The Epic Manager leads the development of hospital-wide curriculum training strategies. They build relationships with thought leaders at SickKids and other organizations to share trends in training and informatics education. The Epic Manager also manages changes during the introduction of new educational, business, and clinical technologies.

Responsibilities:

  • In partnership with the Director of Clinical Application and the Director of the Learning Institute builds long term vision for educational strategiesutilizing a variety of cutting edge technologies to enhance internal, external and international educational opportunities.
  • Builds vision and tactical plans to streamline the design and deliver comprehensive educational strategies for clinical applications.
  • Demonstrates the ability to effectively facilitate change on a hospital-wide scale and ensures an environment that supports the clinical, professional and academic mandate of the hospital.
  • Plays a key role in the planning activities for future system upgrades and functionality, in order to ensure appropriate training strategies.
  • Participates on committees, task forces, meetings and practice reviews in a leadership, liaison and/or consultative role to ensure a thorough knowledge of the best educational approach as it relates to the implementation and operational use of key clinical and corporate application systems.
  • Provides a work environment where staff are empowered to excel to their maximum potential, have the ability to contribute fully and positively to the development of a team and portfolio.
  • Develops and maintains training standards to be applied across the organization. This includes hospital policies, procedures & processes related to clinical system training and the use of computer systems.
  • Leads and/or acts as a subject matter expert for the acquisition of technology/product related projects and operations.
  • Performs other duties as required or as needed.
