What to Expect
The Tesla Manufacturing team is seeking a Manufacturing Equipment Engineer to be responsible for troubleshooting and developing equipment, fixtures, and end-of-arm tooling (EOAT). The role will involve working with cross-functional teams and assisting in the maintenance of equipment on the manufacturing lines. This position will be based at our Lathrop manufacturing facility.

What You’ll Do

  • Ownership of projects through their entire lifecycle, from concept generation, fabrication, and production bring-up
  • Troubleshoot and provide day-to-day technical support for production equipment ,Get passionate about firefighting, analyzing, and addressing operational challenges
  • Design new tooling, fixtures, assembly aids, and equipment to be used on the Manufacturing lines
  • Detailed machine design and creation of machine layouts, detailed part/assembly drawings
  • Create CAD models and technical 2D drawings for new tooling and equipment, performing FEA structural analyses when applicable
  • Define/Contribute in specifications and requirements for outsourced tooling and equipment, including standardized RFQ (request for quote) documents to be sent to suppliers
  • Contribute in product design for manufacturability (DFM), DFMEA and sustainability
  • Run CAE/CFD simulations to theoretically understand /De-risk new process/Equipment design changes
  • Use tools like Minitab/JMP for data analysis and presentation of experimental data
  • Working Knowledge about Welding, CNC operation, Water jetting equipment

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing or equivalent experience
  • 1-3 years of experience related to equipment design and custom machine-building
  • Extensive experience with SolidWorks 3D CAD and 2D drawing software
  • Theoretical understanding of drafting standards and the application of GD&T
  • Good understanding of BOMs, OEE, manufacturability, DFM, process design, process validation, assembly methods, design reviews and cost reduction methodologies
  • Experience with common machine components: electromechanical systems, motors, actuators, linear rails, bearings, lifting/rigging, and more
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities and assignments, coping with rapidly changing inputs, constraints, and priorities
  • Familiarity with modern machine controls including PLCs and pneumatic systems
  • Basic Understanding of Electrical schematics and functions of electrical devices
  • Be an expert leader in the technical discussion and define process and Equipment development roadmap for assembly processes

Expected Compensation
$72,000 - $237,600/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
