The Ministry of Parks, Culture and Sport’s mission is to enhance economic growth and support quality of life by managing the provincial parks system and providing recreation, sport, heritage and cultural opportunities for residents and visitors. The Ministry is currently seeking a dynamic and highly motivated individual who is a flexible team player for the position of Equipment Operator for provincial park lands within Lac La Ronge Provincial Park of the Saskatchewan Parks Service. Reporting to the Resource Maintenance Supervisor, this position will be involved in the park maintenance program.
As an Equipment Operator in the park maintenance program, you will operate, service, and maintain equipment such as: light to heavy trucks, garbage and sewer trucks, tractors, skid steers, UTV’s lawn tractors and snowmobiles. You will perform various park and trail maintenance functions such as campground maintenance, facility cleaning and maintenance, trail maintenance, ski trail grooming, tree and brush removal, snow removal from parking areas. You will work under changing climate conditions and must be willing to travel and work flexible hours. You must ensure public safety and hold a valid Class 5 Driver’s license. Class 3 and Class 1 Driver’s licenses would be an asset. Chainsaw certificate is also an asset.
The successful candidate will have experience and knowledge of safe cleaning methods, equipment operations including snowmobile and UTV operation and service/repairs. You will have knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Standards (OH&S), Workplace Hazardous Material Information Systems (WHMIS), and Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG). You will have knowledge of computer operations, trail maintenance and Ministry signing standards.
The successful candidate will have the ability to perform park equipment operations using heavy equipment. You have the ability to work independently and/or as a contributing member of a park team. You will complete work assignments and contribute towards a positive working environment. You have the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. You have the ability to be clear and courteous to inquiries from the general public; to identify problems, consider various options and determine appropriate course of action; and physically perform tasks such as lifting, carrying, and moving supplies and equipment.
