Description:
JOB SUMMARY:
As an Estimator for the Environmental Group at YORK1, you will be responsible for providing accurate cost estimates for various projects and tenders across multiple divisions, including Hydrovac & Underground, Telecom & Utilities, Waste Collection, and Facilities. This role involves assessing project specifications, understanding client requirements, and developing precise cost estimates for labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractors. Your ability to work with diverse teams, manage multiple tasks, and coordinate effectively with internal and external stakeholders will be essential for the success of this role.
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:
- Bachelor’s degree or high school diploma with relevant experience in the environmental space, related construction industry.
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in estimating within the environmental or related construction industry.
- Must be extremely organized and capable of working with multiple departments and teams.
- Strong knowledge of environmental services, including hydrovac techniques, utilities, and waste management.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting municipal tenders, construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
- Experience with estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Excellent analytical and mathematical skills, with a strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with clients and internal teams.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to sites as needed.
Responsibilities:
- Review and analyze project specifications, drawings, soil reports, and other documentation to prepare accurate cost estimates for services across various environmental projects.
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractors, ensuring all aspects of the estimate is covered.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings and site visits to gain a clear understanding of scope and client requirements.
- Utilize software to develop and manage estimates, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
- Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and other internal teams to understand project goals, constraints, and risks.
- Coordinate available bid packages and work with divisional leads to build a pipeline.
- Prepare and submit bid proposals, including detailed cost breakdowns and supporting documentation.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry standards, and market trends to ensure competitive pricing.
- Track and analyze the performance of completed projects to improve future estimating accuracy.
- Assist with contract negotiations and support project teams throughout the project lifecycle.
