Depending on the needs in your community, available roles could include committee lead, logistics, community outreach, volunteer lead, and social media.
Description

As the Event Day Experience Lead you will be responsible for:

  • Creating the event day schedule, by executing national scripting and writing in any local content
  • Being the stage manager on event day (or recruiting an event day volunteer leadership position)
  • Leading the 5 main ceremonies of Relay For Life; Opening Ceremonies, Participant of Hope Ceremony (formally known as Survivor Victory Lap), Luminary Ceremonies, Award Ceremony, and Closing Ceremonies
  • Liaising with the Hope Engagement Coordinator and the Participant Engagement Lead to deliver a Participant of Hope Ceremony that is engaging and meaningful
  • Leading and supporting the Entertainment Coordinator and coordinating with the Master of Ceremonies to ensure smooth transitions and recognition on the part of participants and ensuring the Entertainment Coordinator’s tasks are completed if this role remains vacant
  • Working with the Site Lead to make sure the site planning includes all material and aspects needed to give an amazing experience to the participants

Why we need you
At CCS we are committed to improving the cancer experience by helping people with cancer live their lives more fully. The Canadian Cancer Society Relay For Life brings together communities united by the same goal of creating a world where no Canadian fears cancer. Relay is an opportunity to celebrate those who live and have lived in the face of cancer.

What we’re looking for

  • You understand the power of moments and how important creating them is. You are organized and thoughtful.
  • You recognize the gravity and emotions brought out when people gather together to honour and remember those who have experienced cancer.
  • You know that cancer can change everything and bringing community together in support of people who have been affected by cancer helps us prove that life is bigger than cancer.
  • You are ready to do your best to make the Relay experience positive and meaningful for everyone you connect with.

Our Investment
As an organization, we will provide you with online resources, training and support to help you lead the Event Day Experience of this community event.
You will work closely with the Entertainment Coordinator and also be supported by the Relay Director, Logistics, a fellow volunteer, who will oversee all aspects around implementing the actual event day.
You will be part of the larger Relay community and have opportunity to learn and mentor as you engage with CCS staff and volunteers.

Your commitment

  • This is an important leadership role. We are anticipating an ongoing level of commitment which will include regular monthly meetings with the entire committee.
  • Between the committee meetings, you will be arranging the details with those who will be speaking at the event and the Luminary and Survivor Leads.
  • You will communicate consistently and regularly with the Relay Director, Logistics and other members of the team, including the Entertainment Coordinator.
  • As the event date approaches your time commitment will increase. On event day your leadership, as you ensure the event is safe and fun, will be critical in creating the sense of accomplishment that everyone will go home with, knowing that their actions have created something bigger than cancer.

Responsibilities:

  • Creating the event day schedule, by executing national scripting and writing in any local content
  • Being the stage manager on event day (or recruiting an event day volunteer leadership position)

  • Working with the Site Lead to make sure the site planning includes all material and aspects needed to give an amazing experience to the participant
