OPPORTUNITY

MacEwan University is seeking Exam Invigilators for casual appointment opportunities with the Exam Services department. Reporting to the Exam Coordinator, you will ensure that exams are conducted fairly and securely, maintaining the integrity of the examination process by preventing any academic misconduct, and ensuring that all examination procedures are followed according to established protocols, practices, and procedures. You will collaborate with the team to provide invigilation for exams for a diverse range of students with varying needs for accommodated, distance, and deferred exams.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with examination setup by arranging seating, distributing examination materials, and ensuring that all necessary equipment is in place, including adaptive and computer equipment;
  • Monitoring and supporting students according to the specific requirements outlined for each individual, including those with special accommodations, while adhering to MacEwan’s rules and regulations governing the examination;
  • Escorting students to assigned exam seating locations;
  • Providing clear instructions to students regarding examination procedures;
  • Patrolling examination venues regularly and discreetly to deter misconduct, while being accessible to address any concerns or questions from students;
  • Ensuring a fair, impartial, inclusive, supportive, and responsive environment;
  • Maintaining a secure environment by actively preventing and addressing any attempts at academic dishonesty, such as plagiarism, collusion, or unauthorized use of electronic devices;
  • Documenting incidents and collaborating with the Exam Coordinator to ensure compliance with established policies, procedures, and protocols; and
  • Coordinating and organizing examination materials post-examination, ensuring that all materials are accounted for and returned appropriately.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of a high school diploma.
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience working in a professional setting, preferably performing exam invigilation or a similar role.
  • Training in Mental Health First Aid would be considered an asset.
  • Training in trauma-informed approaches and practice would be considered an asset.
  • Experience working with persons with disabilities, in education, or a service-oriented environment is considered an asset.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

We are looking for individuals who can work shifts during student exam periods in the academic year, with our peak period falling in December and April during final exams.
The Exam Services Centre operational hours are Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with the occasional accommodated exam going as late as 9:00p.m, therefore evening shifts are sometimes available. Shifts range between 3 to 8 hours long. The occasional Saturday shift may be requested during peak periods. Please indicate your desired availability in your cover letter.
