Description:

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s Degree in psychology, social work, healthcare administration, or a related field; clinical background in behavioral health is highly preferred.
  • Certification in behavioral health management or related areas (preferred).
  • 10 or more years of experience in behavioral health leadership, with a proven track record of managing and expanding behavioral health services.
  • Extensive experience in the ability to lead teams and maintain positive professional relationships.
  • Strong healthcare administration and operational experience.
  • Experience integrating behavioral health services with primary care and other medical settings; understands the role of behavioral health in primary care medical home.
  • Solid financial background gained through both operational and business planning experience.
  • Extensive Change Management experience.
  • Experience in leading multidisciplinary groups, negotiating contracts and fundraising.
  • Administration and operational experience in a behavioral health environment with a diverse array of services, including outpatient and facility based mental health and addiction treatment services.
  • Experience working in a large, integrated healthcare system with a focus on behavioral health (preferred).
  • Communicating the complexities and resource needs for the array of BH and substance use disorder treatment services in many diverse settings.
  • Establishing collaboration and building relationships within a matrix organization.
  • Prioritizing and responding to diverse demands within the organization and externally in the community.
  • Develop an organizational structure to support and promote professional practice standards to diverse clinicians including: Psychiatrists, Addictionologists, Nurse Practitioners, Clinical Psychologists, Clinical Social Workers and other allied health professionals.
  • Provide coordination between acute care operations and the IDN and service line programs.
  • Problem-solving skills that lead to good decisions and emphasize common goals.
  • Bringing strong effective communication to diverse teams.
  • Balancing priorities.

Responsibilities:

THIS IS A HYBRID ROLE IN THE PROVIDENCE GEOGRAPHICAL FOOTPRINT.

The Executive Director (ED) of Behavioral Health (BH) for the South Division is responsible for providing subject matter expertise to the behavioral health services teams across the division. This role involves strategic oversight and clinical thought partnership to ensure the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered behavioral health services.
The ED will collaborate with healthcare professionals, administrators, and external partners to develop and implement effective behavioral health programs that meet the needs of the communities served. The scope of services includes all age groups and acute and ambulatory BH services provided.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Strategic Leadership:
  • Partners with the division strategy team to develop a vision for behavioral health services that aligns with the overall mission and goals of Providence Health.
  • Identify opportunities to expand and enhance behavioral health services, ensuring they meet the evolving needs of the population.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to integrate behavioral health into broader healthcare initiatives and programs within the division.
  • Develop models of care that promote strategic objectives to achieve superior quality outcomes, positive patient experience, remove barriers to access, financial sustainability and addresses population health.
  • Daily Management:
  • Provides tactics to BH leaders to enhance the daily operations of behavioral health services, including inpatient, outpatient, and community-based programs.
  • Helps to ensure efficient utilization of resources, including staff, facilities, and budgets, to deliver high-quality care.
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of behavioral health services, advising process improvements as needed.
  • Clinical Quality and Patient Care:
  • Promote a culture of excellence in clinical care, emphasizing patient and caregiver safety, evidence-based practices, and continuous improvement.
  • Develop and enforce clinical guidelines and protocols to standardize care and improve outcomes.
  • Ensure that behavioral health services are patient and family-centered, culturally competent, and responsive to the needs of diverse populations.
  • Team Leadership and Development:
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment that encourages professional development, caregiver safety and teamwork.
  • Facilitates operational leaders to identify educational resources for staff to deliver high-quality behavioral health services. Helps identify key talent and pipelines for recruitment in order to allow caregivers to work at top of license. Identifies and disseminates strategies to enhance caregiver and physician experience.
  • Team Leadership and Development:
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment that encourages professional development, caregiver safety and teamwork.
  • Facilitates operational leaders to identify educational resources for staff to deliver high-quality behavioral health services. Helps identify key talent and pipelines for recruitment in order to allow caregivers to work at top of license. Identifies and disseminates strategies to enhance caregiver and physician experience.
  • Develop models of care that promote strategic objectives to achieve superior quality outcomes, positive patient experience, remove barriers to access, financial sustainability and addresses population health.
  • Community and Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with community organizations, government agencies, and other stakeholders to support behavioral health initiatives. Lead efforts to qualify for all eligible grants and financial assistance from governmental agencies, not for profits and philanthropists. Partners with government affairs to advocate for fair reimbursement and patient centered legislation.
  • In collaboration with Government Affairs, represent Providence Health in local, regional and national forums, advocating for the needs of behavioral health services. Represent the South division at service area, divisional and system meetings (such as the Well Being Trust) as well as external forums.
  • Collaborate with community partners to develop and implement programs that address social determinants of health and improve access to behavioral health care.
  • In close coordination with Government Affairs, serve as an advocate at state and county level for changes in payment systems and service delivery to increase reimbursement while improving overall population health and decreasing utilization of acute care services.
  • Financial Management:
  • Assist in developing the budget for behavioral health services, ensuring financial sustainability and alignment with organizational goals.
  • Coordinates with payor contracting, revenue cycle and insurance providers to ensure fair reimbursement for services provided.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and revenue generation within the behavioral health programs.
  • Monitors financial performance, including monitoring expenditures and ensuring appropriate resource allocation.
  • Other duties as assigned.
