POSITION OVERVIEW:

Reporting to the Chief Business Development Officer, the Executive Director, Capital Markets develops and executes the Foreign Exchange (FX) strategy for CIBC Mellon for all funds designated to the investment portfolio. Position, market, develop, and grow CIBC Mellon’s $50M Foreign Exchange (FX) business and ensuring the overall profitability and delivery of quality service for all of CIBC Mellon’s FX clients. Provides strategic leadership on FX within Client Management while also supporting business development efforts. In partnership with the Operations groups, leads the ongoing development of the FX service model and represents CIBC Mellon in the FX space, within industry related areas as well as with our parent companies BNY and CIBC.

ADDITIONAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Client Management: Participate in meetings and presentations with clients and prospective clients, as required, while acting as primary contact for internal CIBC Mellon Business Development and Client Management groups with respect to FX. Support business development efforts, including upsell/cross-sell to grow the FX business with both prospect and existing clients. Build internal awareness of FX through training and knowledge sharing within CIBC Mellon

Industry Involvement / Leader: Ensure CIBC Mellon stays at the forefront in the Canadian FX market by being actively involved in the industry, staying abreast of Canadian and Global market news, and maintaining active membership with industry associations. Develop and maintain an industry leadership role by attending and speaking at industry conferences. Develop and maintain relationships with BNY & CIBC FX product and coverage teams, working groups and steering committees.

  • Business Growth and Profitability: Develop sales forecasts, manage the sales pipeline and contribute to sales efforts as appropriate to grow and protect FX wallet share. Manage the FX profit and loss (P&L) by tracking revenue and profitability and maintaining standard rate card. Consult Client Management on negotiation strategy, review and approve all non-standard pricing and customized functionality. Responsible for working with all CIBC Mellon and BNY groups to continuously develop and improve FX services. Analyze new requests or required enhancements to determine feasibility including partnering with operations and technology teams to determine on how to implement. Partner with operations and technology to improve efficiencies in order to control and reduce costs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Specific Knowledge & Skills (not preferred or an asset)

  • University degree; Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation
  • 10+ years experience in the financial services industry
  • Understanding of FX markets; risk management measurement expertise
  • Microsoft Office - Advanced MS Excel, PowerPoint, Access and other MS Office
  • Client relationship, presentation, project management, verbal & written communication, analytical/problem solving skills
  • Undergraduate business or finance degree with MBA or CFA designation
  • Experience in managing investments in a Treasury or bank environment is an asset
  • Knowledge of corporate banking services and practices
  • Understanding of Accounting Systems
  • Knowledge of fixed income products with focus on short term money market and high credit quality bonds
  • Experience using Bloomberg
  • High attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to convey to a broad audience market economic conditions, portfolio construction and selection and overall performance

Responsibilities:

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identify and communicate market opportunities and challenges as they relate to Foreign Exchange, Commission Recapture, Transition Management, and partner Capital Markets product offerings, positioning, marketing, developing, growing, and maintaining product lines
  • Serve as main point of contact with parent companies for Capital Markets products including FX, Commission Recapture, etc.; manage relationships with parent companies: sales, trading, credit, legal, marketing, operations
  • Establish subject matter expertise on all facets of products, offerings: sales/RFPs, client maintenance, client upsell, problem solving, trouble shooting, legal, compliance, regulatory, financial reporting, shareholder synergy, managing primary sales touch points, and acting as product expert during client presentations
  • Lead, develop and support product goals with shareholder client events, collaborating with Relationship Management/Business Development teams regarding product opportunities and strategies
  • Prepare annual budgets and business forecasts; assist in the preparation of RFPs and product training for internal staff
  • Deliver commentary and analysis of foreign exchanges revenues and trends (monthly, quarterly, on-demand), participate on internal committees, providing guidance, support and expertise, and assume lead for various projects as assigned
  • Execute and monitor the daily trade and administration activity associated with the management of CIBC Mellon portfolios
  • Communicate with and maintain relationships with representatives at other financial institutions, representatives of CIBC Mellon parent organizations and key business contacts to develop and maintain successful business relationships and to effect required transactions
  • Drive reporting, analysis of investment profile and performance in support of financial planning and results, ALCO and communication with senior management at CIBC Mellon
  • As a member of the Capital Markets leadership team, collaborate with other departments including Client Management, Business Development, Operations and Finance leaders on long-term planning and strategic direction
  • Lead, coach and develop the FX team, including setting performance objectives, conducting performance reviews and coordinating training requirements and development opportunities
