Darlington Borough Council are seeking a new Executive Director, Economy & Public Protection. This strategic leadership position is central to driving the borough’s economic growth and enhancing public protection services, and we are seeking a dynamic individual to lead our efforts in these vital areas.
In this role, you will provide vision and direction across a broad spectrum of services, ensuring the successful implementation of our Council Plan. You will work closely with a talented team dedicated to revitalising Darlington’s economy, enhancing its vibrant Town Centre, and leveraging new developments such as the Economic Campus which is set to break ground early next year, creating approximately 1400 jobs and attracting additional civil service presence. Your hands-on approach will be crucial in engaging with our business growth team, fostering inward investment opportunities, and building strong relationships with developers and local businesses to attract further private sector investment.
The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of the economic landscape and a proven track record in strategic leadership. Your ability to forge partnerships will be instrumental in positioning Darlington as an attractive location for private sector investment. You will lead a range of regeneration initiatives creating a framework that supports and captures sustainable economic growth which benefits all residents.
Public protection is another key area of responsibility, encompassing trading standards, private sector housing, and environmental health. You will be tasked with driving initiatives that attract quality housing developments and tackle the challenges posed by empty homes. In a time when traditional retail is under pressure, you will explore innovative ways to rejuvenate our town centre, forging new partnerships that can bring unprecedented growth and activity.
As a member of the Corporate Leadership Team, you will play a crucial role in the council’s overall management. Your strategic insight will guide policy development, budgetary provision, and performance measures that align with our corporate priorities. You will lead by example, motivating your team to deliver exceptional results while ensuring our services maintain high standards of efficiency and effectiveness.
This position requires a strong communicator, adept at nurturing relationships with elected members, external bodies, and stakeholders. You will represent the council at external meetings, advocate for our strategic direction, and ensure we meet the needs of our community while maximising opportunities for growth.
If you are passionate about driving economic development, fostering innovation, and enhancing public safety within a vibrant community, we want to hear from you. This is your chance to make a significant impact on the future of Darlington. Join us in shaping a prosperous, inclusive, and thriving borough where every resident can flourish.
