Description:

BCIT International is seeking a regular, full-time (1.0 FTE) Executive Director, Global Partnerships who will develop, foster, and lead strategic relationships with international partners to advance and champion BCIT’s vision for its internationalization initiatives. Provides strategic leadership to the Institute’s global partnership development and internationalization initiatives. Collaborates to facilitate the achievement of international goals and establish an international presence by creating a strong professional rapport with partners across the Institute. Leads and participates in committees and working groups to address issues of internationalization in higher education both within and outside the Institute.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Participates as a member of the Associate Vice President, Academic’s (AVP) management team, providing input to development of the department’s vision and broad over-arching strategies and sharing responsibility for achievements and success.
  • Develops strategies, plans and policies, and drives out strategic initiatives that support achievement of BCIT’s global engagement strategy. Establishes the necessary standards, processes and metrics to enhance BCIT’s global reputation and international outreach.
  • Acts as strategic advisor and collaborates with the Provost, AVPs and Deans on global partnership matters, including partner identification and assessment of specific memoranda/agreements prior to formal signing. Delivers reports, presentations and business cases on global partnership vision, challenges, initiatives and achievements.
  • Provides strategic direction to BCIT’s international academic and business partnership activities, such as partnership development, industry service contracts, study abroad, field schools, and faculty and student mobility opportunities with institutions in other countries.
  • Leads in identifying, developing, and negotiating strategic relationships with international partner institutions and organizations. Creates submissions of contracts and executes international partnership agreements in accordance with the Institute and Canadian rules and regulations.
  • Leads international initiatives aimed at achieving BCIT’s internationalization efforts and ensures compliance with applicable governmental regulations and external agencies and sponsors’ guidelines and standards. Establishes governance framework for international partnerships and manages risks and policies relevant for all international mobility programming.
  • Develops and refines a strategic internationalization plan, identifying international direction and goals. Balances achievement of international enrolment targets with annual gross and net revenue targets. Provides projections and reporting for budgeting and institutional planning.
  • Acts as the BCIT liaison, on behalf of the Provost, between Technology Training Associates (TTA), Schools, and service units for the purposes of business development.
  • Facilitates international visits to the campus. Advises BCIT senior leadership on protocols related to meetings and visits with international dignitaries and diplomats. Manages and leads high-level meetings with international partners and foreign institute delegations.
  • Oversees internationalization initiative development including marketing and promotion materials, data analysis and management of daily operations and international outreach efforts. Work closely with AVP to develop and assess effectiveness of programming currently offered in relation to international market trends.
  • Works with the Director, International Recruitment to develop the international partnerships plan to expand international student enrolment through market assessment, opportunities, and effective conversion. Participate as an active member of the Strategic Enrollment Management (SEM) committee and disseminates data to identify target markets and students.
  • Collaborates with the Associate Dean, Agile and Work Integrated Learning to plan, review, and implement micro credentials to support the success of international students. Engages partners to facilitate an integrated approach to planning, development and delivery. Facilitates communications with faculty on internationalization of curricula and promotion of global awareness.
  • Represents BCIT at events and conferences, serving as a spokesperson and an ambassador. Builds and maintains an active network of key contacts in partner institutions and organizations, professional associations, and business/government. Evolves and refreshes international program offerings considering political, economic, and cultural challenges and opportunities.
  • Manages reporting staff, including selection, coaching, mentoring, development, performance management and all other people-management practices.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

  • Master’s degree with a minimum of ten (10) years’ progressive experience in business development and international partnerships within the Canadian and international post-secondary environment.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with ability to establish and maintain a wide variety of stakeholder relations in a collaborative environment.
  • Advanced relationship management skills with ability to build productive, collaborative relations with a leadership team, staff, unions, and other internal/external partners.
  • Strong strategic thinking with well-developed strategic planning and priority setting skills.
  • Excellent leadership skills with the entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to achieve consensus and to be able to make difficult decisions and effectively articulate rationale.
  • Advanced planning skills, with ability to lead and facilitate strategic planning processes.
  • Advanced organization skills with the ability to work independently and as part of cross- functional and multicultural teams and to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment and manage a high volume of tasks, deadlines, and requirements.
  • Advanced knowledge of the concepts, theories, practices and techniques of effective and efficient operations management, including all aspects of financial management.
  • Advanced analytical skills and ability to apply sound judgment in problem solving, evaluating courses of action, and making recommendations and/or decisions.
  • Proficiency with standard office systems and applications.
