Environment and Climate Change is currently seeking to fill the Executive Director position who will oversee the Legislation, Policy and Coordination Branch.
The Department’s role and mission is to sustainably manage and protect the province’s environment and rich biodiversity of natural resources such as water, wildlife and forests by working cooperatively with the public, Indigenous communities, and other agencies, governments and stakeholders to strike a balance between protecting the integrity of the environment and meeting the social and economic needs of Manitobans.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends as required
  • Must be able to travel (with possible overnight stays) within Manitoba and Canada as required

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Post secondary education in social services, Economics, Public Administration, Law or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Experience providing leadership and direction in the design and implementation of legislation, policies, programs and evaluation
  • Experience translating strategic priorities into clear operational and business plans and experience with strategic performance management measurement systems (e.g. key performance indicators, balanced scorecards)
  • Experience as a senior leader to create, support, lead and sustain a diverse environment that enables staff to achieve results
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with ambiguity, leverage opportunities for innovation, find creative solutions to issues, and successfully manage change
  • Excellent political acumen demonstrated through experience providing strategic advice to senior leaders on complex topics and sensitive issues
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills with experience managing complex, high-level internal and external stakeholder relationships
  • Strong written communication skills with experience writing and/or reviewing complex reports and information
  • Strong financial acumen with experience in budgeting and financial management
  • Experience building relationships with Indigenous people and implementing the principles of reconciliation

Desired:

  • Knowledge of major natural resource and environmental issues facing the department, and a general understanding of various program branches and regional operations

Duties:
As a member of the department’s executive management team, the Executive Director is responsible to lead and manage the branch, provide advice and support to the Deputy Minister, and contribute to achieving the corporate goals of government through cross-department initiatives.
The Executive Director will provide executive leadership and direction to a multi-disciplinary team that supports the entire department in developing strategic policy and driving effective execution of priority policy directions that are aligned within its vision, mission and key objectives. This includes coordination of priority department projects with multi branches and departments, directives for legislation and coordinating development of legislation for the department, policy coordination and development, leadership on Indigenous and industry engagement and fostering effective relations international, national and local policy and planning initiatives.
