QUALIFICATIONS

You bring considerable senior leadership experience within the public sector with a proven ability to influence policy and planning decisions and provide strategic direction. A skilled communicator, you have demonstrated success in managing diverse, often highly sensitive issues and collaborating effectively with diverse partners and stakeholders. Your highly honed political acumen will enable you to develop and leverage collaborative working relationships within the Ministry, across government and with education stakeholders. Your ability to think globally will ensure your success in balancing consistency in direction and program delivery across the department with recognizing the need for flexibility to meet unique region and program needs. Your previous experience leading ministry reporting (annual, operational and on priority initiatives) positions you for success in this role along with a demonstrated record of success in policy and legislative development and implementation.
A Bachelor’s degree is required. A related Master’s degree is preferred.

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister, Strategic Services and Governance, the Executive Director of Policy and Planning provides leadership and direction to five interconnected but separate lines of business: policy development and coordination, legislative planning, corporate planning, system assurance and corporate strategic initiatives.
The Executive Director leads a diverse team through complex initiatives and engagements across the ministry, with key business partners and stakeholder organizations to advance the continuous improvement of Alberta’s K-12 education system. This position also leads the development and annual review of the Guide to Education as well as the assurance framework for all school authorities, ensuring alignment with the funding framework in order to build transparency and accountability throughout the education system.
