Description:
JOB OVERVIEW
We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Exercise Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for fitness and wellness, with the ability to educate and motivate clients . This role requires strong communication skills, leadership qualities, and a commitment to providing exceptional customer service.
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Exercise Specialist delivers the Forever Young Fitness Program. Forever Young Fitness is a twice weekly (over 6 weeks or 10 weeks) exercise program geared towards seniors at risk of fall, and patients living with chronic diseases like hypertension, obesity, and diabetes. It includes pre- and post-program assessments for each patient, and a supervised exercise program in a group setting. The program is not a post-cardiac event rehabilitation program.
The program was developed by a CSEP – Certified Personal Trainer and all program materials and equipment will be provided by Borealis PCN. The Exercise Specialist must be able to travel to various clinics in the Borealis PCN catchment area to provide the program.
REQUIREMENTS
- CESP Certified Personal Trainer or Clinical Exercise Physiologist
- Minimum 3 years community based front line experience
- Experience in a health care setting considered an asset
- Ability to conduct health screening assessments using evidence-informed tools, and gather information about physical activity and lifestyle behaviours
- Experience administering various fitness assessments including submaximal aerobic fitness, musculoskeletal fitness (muscular strength, endurance, power, flexibility and balance), and anthropometry
- Experience gathering and applying information about the physical activity, fitness, and lifestyle of a client or group of clients to design, implement, and monitor client-tailored submaximal exercise programs for healthier living
- Demonstrated ability to empathize with and understand individual patient needs
- Demonstrate leadership fostering a positive atmosphere that encourages client engagement and participation
- Respect for privacy and confidentiality and the ability to reflect these principles in work processes
- High levels of integrity and professional behaviour
- Able to work independently and demonstrates ability to be proactive in completing duties
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
- Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle for business use

Responsibilities:
- Research and book clinic and exercise facility locations for the program.
- Promote the program in each of the relevant communities and clinics.
- Receive and assess referrals to the program.
- Liaise with patients to schedule their pre- and post-assessments and provide details about group sessions.
- Conduct individual pre- and post-assessments to evaluate client progress and adjust programs as necessary.
- Develop and implement personalized exercise programs tailored to individual client needs and goals.
- Deliver and supervise the individualized exercise programs in a group setting.
- Adapt the program to individual client needs and injuries.
- Provide ongoing support and motivation to clients during their fitness journey.
- Educate clients on proper exercise techniques, safety protocols, and the benefits of physical activity.
- Manage time efficiently to accommodate multiple clients while ensuring quality service.
- Maintain all relevant records and data and in accordance with practice standards and organizational policy.
- Distribute evaluation tools for completion.
- Liaise with PCN staff to coordinate the program and provide updates.
