BDO’s Capital Advisory team works with companies to find the right capital solution for their business. We assist clients to raise debt or equity financing specific to their needs. The team prepares the required documentation, facilitates negotiations and employs a proven methodology to position the business for success moving forward .
Our geographic breadth combined with our flexible approach means you will be presented with a varied selection of debt and equity transactions, ensuring you develop a diverse transaction skill set. Recent examples of transaction types are buy-side and sell-side debt advisory, stressed refinancing, complex corporate carveouts, large construction and infrastructure deals and technology/growth capital raises. We also work closely with our restructuring, real estate, technology and M&A colleagues, and are seamlessly linked into the wider BDO service lines across multiple jurisdictions.
Our Toronto office is looking for an Experienced Associate, in the Capital Advisory practice to join the team and own the following responsibilities:
Participate in a range of advisory capital raising assignments concurrently assuming responsibility for the day-to-day execution and delivery of service on projects.

- Responsible for underwriting, structuring and documentation of credit requests.
- Analyze complex customer financial, organizational and credit information and prepare credit write ups for presentation to clients and management.
- Conduct market and industry research, detailed financial analysis and business valuations.
- Identify relevant business, market and other commercial risks faced by the customer.
- Using results of analysis and sound judgment, make recommendations to approve or decline transactions based on credit quality, business risk and market needs.Specific debt advisory transaction related activities will include supporting senior colleagues, in the practice with: i) handling the new internal transaction/client “take on” process ii) review and analysis of new transaction material and due diligence reports iii) preparation of, and working with, financing models (including covenant analysis) iv) preparation of â˜teasers
- ' and information documents for prospective lenders v) negotiating NDAs with prospective lenders vi) coordinating Q&A and management presentations with lenders vii) assist with term sheet preparation and negotiations and viii) assist with loan documentation and closing negotiations.
- Operate in a regulated environment and adhere to all regulatory and compliance requirements.
- Ensure quality of client deliverables by having a strong attention to detail.
- Be entrepreneurial in nature to drive growth and practice management in our growing team.
YOUR EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and/or related.
- CA or CPA certification is preferred but not a requirement.Minimum of 2 years
- ' experience at a bank, credit fund or reputable advisory firm with demonstrable debt structuring and transaction experience.
- Excellent financial modelling skills in Excel with a good foundation of building (and working with) operational and/or finance models, including analyzing business forecasts, evaluating scenario analysis and covenant calculations.
- Understanding and ability to determine appropriate capital structures (using a range of debt market products) for a given scenario.
- Ability to review and critically assess transaction materials (i.e. Information memorandum, Financial and Commercial Due Diligence).
- A strong appreciation of debt market trends and financing instruments (such as senior debt, asset backed loans, cash flow loans and mezzanine debt) and their key features, with the ability to explain these in a clear and concise manner.
- Strong analytical and credit analysis skills.
- Sound understanding of, and ability to analyze, key accounting statements including P&L, BS and CF.
- Proficient in MS Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to work quickly and accurately under time pressure.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills that help represent diverse communities.Experience in working with diverse teams.
