Description:

The University’s Imaging Facilities provide state-of-the-art clinical imaging equipment and analysis methods to support world-leading research into basic science and human disease modelling. We own a 3T Philips MRI scanner at the NIHR Manchester Clinical Research Facility and a 3T GE PET-MR scanner at St Mary’s Hospital, Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. We also have dedicated access to a 3T Philips MR scanner at the Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust. There are also preclinical imaging facilities at the Wolfson Molecular Imaging Centre and on the main University campus.
The Facilities support a wide spectrum of imaging research in particular in neuro-imaging, neuro-oncology, dementia, oncology, musculoskeletal and cardiovascular imaging. We work with a wide range of internal and external study teams and perform scans on clinical trials and research projects across a range of disease areas, liaising with local NHS Trusts where the clinical scanners are located.
The post holder will lead MR physics support at the Imaging Facilities, providing specialist technical expertise to develop and enhance the work of academic and clinical researchers.
The post holder will be instrumental in developing the capabilities of the Imaging Facilities and will support all stages of research from project design, sequence development, quality assurance through to data analysis.
The appointee will possess excellent capabilities in advanced MR techniques including pulse programming, optimisation of imaging sequences and analysis of data. The candidate will be expected to maintain an up-to-date knowledge and understanding of relevant developments within their sphere of expertise.
