The Exploits Valley Port Corporation (EVPC) was incorporated in 2005 as a regional board to oversee the operation of the Port of Botwood in central Newfoundland. It is an organization that is focused on expanding the economic interests of the Port of Botwood given its ability to support transatlantic shipping. With growing interest in the production of hydrogen through ongoing wind farm development across central Newfoundland, the Port of Botwood is strategically located to supply this highly valued green energy to international markets.
The EVPC is seeking an experienced and energetic senior leader who can appreciate the potential for this area, build an organization that is a provincial leader in facilitating ongoing business opportunities that wind energy enables and bring new opportunities to the Port of Botwood.

The qualifications for this position include a bachelor’s degree in an applicable field such as business, engineering or related technology, plus a minimum of ten (10) years of management experience, with preference for those with experience at a senior level.
Consideration will be given to an exceptional candidate who may not meet all qualifications but through a combination of education and experience demonstrates their ability to successfully perform.
Experience in port operations or a similar environment is highly valued.
Experience in the international trade arena in a complex, fast-paced environment with a diverse workforce would be considered an asset.
This full-time position is located in the Town of Botwood with the requirement to work on-site and hold a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities:

  • Direct the management of all Port of Botwood business, finance, and human capital. Ensure the organization’s strategic plan is current, managed and executed to achieve short- and long-term performance and productivity goals and expectations.
  • Work with the Board of Directors (Board) to establish a mission, vision and values for the EVPC. Establish and provide a platform for leadership to all employees. Guide the organization toward common goals and execute successfully on targets.
  • Encompass a regional economic development outreach and approach to take the Port of Botwood to the next level of capacity, profitability, and growth.
  • Act as the key advisor to members of the Board and network with stakeholders while executing on the strategic plan in areas of maintaining relationships with the community and building new alliances.
  • Represent the Port of Botwood on related committees, panels, community, and neighbourhood meetings, and public or private meetings in response to the projects, mission, goals, and objectives of the EVPC.
  • Oversee safe work practices, and the safe and secure management of Port of Botwood. Maintain strong relationships with safety officers to ensure the organization is always operating at the maximum safety standards.
  • Direct and oversee management of the Port’s finances. Direct the effective utilization of Port of Botwood resources in support of the regional economy and maximize the economic impact ongoing initiatives and future opportunities can have on the Port of Botwood.
  • Ensure capital works are completed within approved budgets.
  • Manage berthage and wharfage activities, and invoice users accordingly.
  • Responsible for the maintenance plan for all Port infrastructure.
  • Responsible for managing all contractors and consultants in Port development and operations.
