Department Function
The central Production team provides support, guidance and best practices for the BU production teams to strive towards a consistent delivery of a high-quality product for our customers. The department works closely with internal and external stakeholders to continuously improve quality, efficiency, and the ongoing development of our production-based people. Production has many touchpoints and influences with a range of functions throughout the business from Technical and Design and Health and Safety through to Finance, Sales, Customer Service and Human Resources. The department has a wide range of roles within the business, ranging from site-based apprentices, trades and management through to office-based administration, managers and directors. Continuous professional development is encouraged via our Production Academy, working towards a fully qualified production management workforce.
Job summary/Purpose
Our Production teams are integral to managing the successful delivery of every development. The function serves as the backbone of our build process and makes the reality of a Taylor Wimpey development come to life. Our Externals Site Manager leads on the delivery of façade and externals packages through all aspects of the construction stages and is responsible for the day to day planning, supervision, direction and monitoring of site activities, ensuring that projects are delivered in a safe, efficient, cost effective and sustainable manner in line with project programme targets and client/customer expectations.
Primary Responsibilities

As a Façade and Externals Site Manager, you will also be responsible for managing the completion of RC Frames and co-ordination with External Envelope works. You will be responsible for checking Rebar, concrete finishes, QA Checks, health and safety, lifting operations, managing sub-contractors and managing the externals and envelope packages which includes; Groundworks, RC Frame, Scaffolding, SFS, Windows, Brickwork, Cladding, Curtain Walling, Metalwork Installation, Roofing, S278 and landscaping.

  • Co-ordinate and manage pre-commencement Health and Safety obligations across the development ensuring all pre-start Health and Safety plans are fully developed prior to start on site in accordance with TW policy and are maintained throughout the project
  • Work collaboratively with other business functions such as Technical, Commercial, Sales and Customer Service and take a lead during the build stages of development
  • Ensure that all site decisions are made considering the impact on cost and programme and are suitably discussed and agreed as necessary with the Technical and Commercial functions and Project Manager before contractors are instructed
  • Implement a system for the control and monitoring of waste to ensure regional targets for waste reduction are met on the development
  • Ensure that quality standards are set and maintained throughout the project and that quality reports are promptly reviewed and necessary actions taken to address areas of concern.
  • Carry out frequent inspections of all operations to ensure they are carried out in a safe manner.
  • Completion of weekly/daily reports and site inspection.
  • Ensure all site personnel comply with the Construction Health & Safety Regulations 1974 as amended together with the Taylor Wimpey Health and Safety procedure manual.
  • Ensure all operatives have the necessary certification/license to carry out the duties they are required to perform.
  • Ensure all operatives are working to the method statements and risk assessments submitted by the relevant sub-contractor or Taylor Wimpey Management.
  • Check and monitor all sub-contractors site-specific Method Statements, Risk Assessments and COSHH reports.

Experience, Qualifications, Technical Requirements

  • Proven track record at Site Manager level in the construction industry, with experience gained in working with developers, contractor and related partners.
  • A strong understanding of residential construction particularly high-rise development (18m+), with a proven track record of overseeing delivery of Groundworks, Frame and Façade works packages at high profile, complex construction projects to time, cost and quality standards.
  • Strong knowledge on Frame and Façade works
  • Proven track record of managing a range of stakeholder relationships including local authorities, landowners, developers and contractors
  • An in-depth knowledge of the construction process and construction methods, knowledge of current UK construction laws, legislation and regulations, standards and procedures.
  • Civil/Structural Engineering Degree would be desirable.
  • You must hold a valid CSCS, SMSTS and First Aid Certificate.
