Coanda Research & Development Corporation ( A Tetra Tech Company) is a growing research and development company specializing in solving the most complex industrial problems. An exciting opportunity exists in our Burnaby research facility for an energetic and committed Facilities and Maintenance Technician. We are looking for a candidate with good hands-on experience and a diverse skillset. The successful candidate will ensure that all aspects of the company’s physical resources are managed, maintained, and monitored to provide optimum support to the company’s business activities. The candidate must also thrive in a team-oriented environment, as well as work well independently. This position will provide a variety of work and new challenges.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE THAT ARE ASSETS:

  • Previous experience in facilities management/maintenance, building systems, HVAC, plumbing, electrical.
  • Exposure to and knowledge of applicable legislative and compliance regulations including; Occupational Health and Safety Act, Fire Code and Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System.
  • Experience working with vendors on regular maintenance contracts.
  • General building (commercial or residential) and construction experience.
  • Experience on an industrial worksite and/or a research laboratory.
  • Service-oriented.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum 5 years of practical experience in an industrial/commercial environment.
  • Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50lb.
  • Forklift, counterbalance, reach truck and scissor lift experience.
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada.
  • Excellent written and communication skills, fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Proficient with computers and the MS Office environment

Responsibilities:

  • Facilities / Infrastructure:
  • Ensure that the facility is maintained in a safe and clean condition.
  • Coordinate maintenance, repairs and upgrades of all facility systems and fixed equipment (mobile equipment, electrical, plumbing, fire suppression, HVAC, compressors, security, etc.).
  • Coordinate with trades for building and equipment maintenance and repairs.
  • Participate in making recommendations to management on future facility development, planning and equipment acquisitions.
  • Organization and tracking of inventory/assets (totes, crates, material samples, consumables, etc.) in warehouse and offsite storage sites.
  • Material handling using pallet jacks, forklift, electric reach, metal banding, etc.
  • Complete forms, reports, logs and records (data entry, sorting/filtering data).
  • Shipping and Receiving.
  • Basic vehicle & equipment repairs and maintenance.
  • Experimental Lab:
  • On an as-needed basis, assist with the operation, setup, and maintenance of lab experiments.
  • Coordinate new experiment installs to facility tie-ins (electrical, water, etc.)
  • Assist Engineers and Technologists with procurement of equipment and parts
