QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in architecture and 4 to 7 years of job-related experience as an architect. Master of Business Administration (MBA) or other related Master’s degree is considered an asset.
  • Permit holding Member in good standing of the Ordre des Architectes du Québec or another equivalent professional association.
  • Carte d’attestation de Santé et Sécurité générale sur les chantiers de construction LEED certification or other Sustainability certifications are considered assets.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of building codes, sustainable construction practices, laws and procedures.
  • Track record elaborating projects, preparing feasibility studies and business plans and strong construction knowledge. Certification from the Project Management Institute (PMP) an asset.
  • Good knowledge (Level 4) of written English and French language skills: able to write reports, able to respond with sensitivity to queries). Very good knowledge (Level 5) of spoken English and French in order to communicate with the general public.
  • Good knowledge (Intermediate level) of Office 365, Word (able to format & review documents), PowerPoint (able to build presentations for high level communication, using a template). Excel (able to create spreadsheets, extract and format reports from a data base, create pivot tables, graphics and prepare financial calculations).
  • Experience E-mail, and the Internet. Solid Knowledge of AutoCAD, latest version.
  • Experience using Archidata, Maximo, MS Project, institutional-educational projects, with space management of a building portfolio and interior design are considered as assets.
  • Knowledge of building systems design, operation and maintenance an asset.
  • Knowledge of BIM an asset.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills; ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Customer orientation with ability to anticipate potential problems and address them proactively.
  • Strong business acumen, excellent judgment and negotiation skills.
  • Successful completion of a medical evaluation to the University’s satisfaction.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead feasibility studies and elaborate functional & technical space programs through internal space analysis and conceptual design scenarios for facilities management, based on the space inventory (data base, SILU), government space norm, university design guidelines, facility conditions, etc. Investigate and recommend methods and process improvements related to space management, planning and initiation of projects.
  • Manage a series of space requests, project feasibility studies, business cases and strategic development projects for construction or renovation. Provide space planning advice, guidance and technical support to internal clients, discuss needs and analyze requirements. Develop functional and technical space program requirements for teaching, research, services and all other supporting activities. Conceptualize, develop and design pre-concept architectural solutions to meet client needs, code requirements and facilities management standards.
  • Lead teams composed of internal clients and services and external professionals to the successful completion of project studies and scope definitions.
  • Act as quality control point by reviewing drawings and specifications issued by professionals and external consultants at preliminary planning phases of the project including on major construction projects. Ensure conformity with the functional and technical space program and University standards.
  • Undertake other tasks as required by the Manager or the Director of the unit.
  • In collaboration with other members of the department, prepare budgetary cost estimates for feasibility studies and business plans for construction/renovation projects.
  • Compile pertinent information for the development of projects by researching best practices in architectural design, including sustainable practices. Contribute to updating the University’s architectural standards and specifications and technical programs such as the implementation of sustainable design.
  • Coordinate architectural drawings and specifications for renovations. Act as primary consultant and follow construction as required by the professional responsibility and liability.
