THIS POSTING IS FOR 1 TEMPORARY FULL-TIME POSITION UP TO 2 YEARS

Join our team as a Facility Project Engineering Technologist to play an important role in shaping the future of Strathcona County’s infrastructure by leading and executing a variety of facility capital projects. You will be providing experienced project management from conceptual planning to project completion. Working collaboratively with a variety of internal and external parties, the position coordinates project activities, maintain budgets, timelines and expectations, and provides technical support to develop facility standards.
This role may be eligible to participate in our hybrid work program. The successful candidate will be required to reside within 2 hours of Sherwood Park, Alberta.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Minimum of a Diploma in Construction Engineering Technology or a related field
  • C.E.T. with 5 years relevant experience or E.I.T. with 3 years relevant experience including full range project management experience and training
  • Extensive experience in construction project management, administration practices, and public tendering
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office 365 Suite of applications as well as Adobe Acrobat Pro and Bluebeam Studio. Familiarity with construction software tools such as Building Information Modeling (BIM), project management software, and scheduling software is required
  • Experience with project management methodologies such as Agile, Lean, Integrated Project Delivery (IPD), Progressive Design Build and Construction Management , and public tendering
  • Project and contract management knowledge supplemented with formal training
  • Ability to effectively identify issues, clearly explain changes and obtain consensus when a new direction is required to meet the goals of the project
  • Ability to quickly gain the respect of all project team members and stakeholders through personal integrity, experience, communication and professional skills
  • Working in constrained timeframes, ability to prepare and present reports, briefing documents or presentations for audiences ranging from the project team to Councillors
  • Knowledge of Alberta Safety Code, construction and facility terminology and methods and Occupational Health and Safety regulations as it relates to new building construction
  • Knowledge of sustainable building practices and ensures overall compliance of the design and construction teams to the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) and County sustainability standards for new construction

Responsibilities:

  • Works in project teams to develop, plan and implement facility renovations and new construction projects, oversee design and consulting services, prepare required procurement documentation, conduct site visits, meet with user groups, review bids, and recommend award, and manage contracts for compliance
  • Oversee the execution of construction activities, monitoring progress, quality, and safety performance
  • Foster a collaborative work environment among contractors, subcontractors, and project team members to optimize construction sequencing and coordination
  • Provide coordination between all interested parties, guidance on bylaw, building codes and municipal strategic objectives, assist in implementing capital life cycle program
  • Develop project risk profiles and strategies, insurance standards, evaluate insurance costs and transfer of risk
  • Develop project budgets and manages the project’s accounting process, report on variances, complete funding or grant applications
  • Report on project performance and take corrective action as necessary to maintain project scope/schedule/budget
