Description:

The Facilities Technician as part of the facilities team and under the direction of the Manager of Facilities, maintains and repairs the buildings, facilities, utility systems, equipment, and grounds. They are responsible for planning, budgeting, and scheduling facility modifications, including estimates on equipment, labor materials and other related costs.
The Facilities Technician assumes responsibility for allocated buildings, prioritizes and schedules daily tasks and maintenance requests.

A. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Minimum of one year of related experience and/or training required.
  • Experience and knowledge of carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC.

B. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must satisfactorily pass criminal history check.
  • Must satisfactorily pass tuberculosis (TB) test.
  • Must have reliable transportation and a valid Washington State driver’s license (or be able to obtain one by date of employment).
  • Employees and volunteers who operate their own or Friends of Youth vehicles on Friends of Youth business, must have a safe driving record as defined by Friends of Youth.
  • Employees and volunteers who operate their own vehicle(s) on Friends of Youth business must carry auto liability insurance that complies with the requirements of Friends of Youth.
  • Must successfully complete the following health certification requirements within 30 days of employment: CPR, First Aid and Bloodborne Pathogens.
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required. There are no exemptions.
  • May need to intervene during an emergency or any kind of disaster.
  • May need to work evenings, weekends, holidays, extended hours and/or paid overtime; on-call after hours rotation.

Responsibilities:

  • Schedule day-to-day facility related operations including scheduled maintenance, repairs, upgrades, work requests and emergency situations.
  • Utilize working knowledge of carpentry, painting, plumbing, and machinist work.
  • Oversee the work of third-party vendors and subcontractors.
  • Monitor and inspect buildings and premises for fire, security and health and safety issues. Record findings and provide recommendations for improvement to the Manager.
  • Keep work areas clean and up to regulatory standards and comply with all Labor and Industry and Health and Safety standards.
  • Prepare and oversee all preventative maintenance scheduling and work through to timely completion.
  • Respond to work requests in a timely and prioritized manner and documents all the work done through completion.
  • Inspect equipment and building to determine the need for repairs and work with outside vendor as approved and assigned by Manager of Facilities.
  • Ensure documents, paperwork and purchase orders are processed in a timely and efficient manner and communication is effective.
  • Clean, repair and paint officers and other areas following damage or general wear and tear.
  • Conduct regular fire safety inspections, including smoke alarm, fire extinguisher, escape light and alarm test, and record all findings.
  • Plan, schedule, and estimate time and materials needed to complete jobs.
  • Report and keep record of jobs completed and materials used.
  • Schedule and/or conduct snow removal when required.
  • Keep an accurate record of all purchases using an assigned credit card and follow the agency process and procedures.
  • Maintain cooperative and positive relations with employees, clients, partner agencies, volunteers, and donors, building occupants or tenants, contractors, public officials, and the public.
  • Provide excellent customer service to all internal and external facility customers.
