Description:
Job title: Facility Caretaker
Our custodial team ensures that the WMCA’s mission is upheld through their dedication to maintaining high cleanliness standards. They are self-motivated, task driven and physically capable.
Wage: Starts at $16.50 per hour. Further increases may be available as employment continues based on job performance and successful completion of a 6 month probation period.
Hours & Availability: Hours are largely dictated by event schedules, mostly consisting of evening and weekends. WMCA facility caretakers must have open availability and be able to work late nights, early mornings, weekends and some holidays. They must be willing to work split shifts when needed and be comfortable working alone at any hour. This is a full time position (minimum 35 hours a week). WMCA Caretakers are able to set their own hours as long as they are able to satisfactorily complete all tasks.
SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS:
- A positive and willing attitude
- Due to the size and age of our building, this position is quite physically demanding with lots of stairs, lifting, etc.
- Comfortable at heights
- Prior commercial custodial experience, in a similar environment would be of particular value
- Able to be a contributing member of our team and work proficiently
- Knowledge of, and adherence to, Workplace Health and Safety.
- WHIMIS certification
- Class 5 drivers licence or ability to get yourself to and from the workplace at any hour in various weather conditions.
- Prioritize tasks based on time available and event demands.
Responsibilities:
Primary Responsibilities
- Ensure cleanliness of all WMCA spaces, including the concert hall, backstage, spotlight booth, dressing rooms, Founders room, Grand Salon, bathrooms, and front of house.
- Conduct daily facility and grounds inspections.
- Maintain facility integrity (wooden banisters, doors, historical knobs, etc.).
Event Tasks
- Assist with event setup and teardown (tables, chairs, pipe and drape).
- Reset furniture after events.
Daily Tasks
- General cleaning (vacuuming, dusting, polishing, sweeping, mopping)
- Bathroom maintenance (scrubbing toilets, showers, sinks)
- Window cleaning, removing gum, clearing snow, changing light bulbs, emptying garbage
- Dishwashing, laundering towels offsite
- Sanitizing contact surfaces
Additional Responsibilities
- Maintain adequate supplies, rotating stock and filling dispensers as needed.
- Operate pallet jack to move the dumpster for pick up.
- Interact tactfully with users, staff, and the public.
- Support and adhere to employer policies and procedures.
- Deep cleaning during non-event periods
