Under the general supervision of the Opera ons Supervi-
sor, the Facility Maintenance Technician is a skilled, trained
and adaptable tradesperson responsible for the general
maintenance and upkeep of the mechanical opera ons of
our mul -use facili es. Primary du es include the preventa-
ve and regular maintenance all facility machinery and
equipment including refrigera on, electrical, HVAC and
plumbing systems and pool and fitness equipment.
The Facility Maintenance Technician is a part of the facility
maintenance team and therefore may be required to assist
with addi onal building maintenance and janitorial work.
The worker must exercise care in rou ne dealings with oth-
er employees and provide assistance to the public and user
groups using the facili es.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
Red Seal (or equivalent) Journeyperson’s cket in
applicable trade with preference given to Industrial
Mechanic (Millwright), Plumber or HVAC and
Refrigera on Mechanic. Addi onal trades would be
considered with an acceptable equivalent combina on
of educa on and experience.
Experience or knowledge rela ng to the mechanical
workings of large scale facili es.
Valid B.C. Drivers License
Standard First Aid and CPR
Workplace Hazardous Materials Informa on System
(WHMIS) 2015 Cer fica on.
Sa sfactory Criminal Record
Class 5 Refrigera on Power Engineering Cer fica on
Pool Opera on Level 2 Cer ficate of Competency or
equivalent
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Strong mechanical ap tude
Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot issues, develop
and evaluate op ons and implement solu ons
Ability to manage me and coordinate independently,
adjus ng ac ons in rela on to opera onal needs
Demonstrated ability to perform rou ne maintenance
on equipment and determine when and what type of
maintenance is needed
Independent judgement and decision making abili es
to consider the rela ve costs and benefits of poten al
ac ons and choose the most appropriate one in
consulta on with Facility Management
General knowledge of electrical, HVAC and plumbing
systems with the willingness to con nue learning
General understanding of Building Management
Systems (DDC controls).
Ability to use and understand computer so ware
including Microso office (excel, word).
Knowledge of the opera on of an arena refrigera on ice
plant.
Knowledge of the principles of opera on of hea ng, hot
water, and ven la on units.
Knowledge of opera on of pool filtra on system,
including UV and chlorine systems.
Ability to read, interpret meters and gauges as well as
perform calcula ons, tests and maintain reports, logs
and records.
Knowledge and ability to perform repair and
maintenance tasks on buildings and components.
Knowledge of WHMIS procedures.
Knowledge of using, handling, and shipping of hazardous
chemicals and dangerous goods.
Ability to deal courteously and effec vely with the public.
Ability to work with minimal supervision, exercise
considerable independence of judgment / ac on in the
opera on of equipment.
Willingness to work as a team member
Ability to communicate effec vely with co-workers and
Supervisor.

request.
The successful applicant will earn $37.47 per hour in this
