ABOUT US

UCL is a radically different university. Founded in 1826 in the heart of London, we were the first university in England to welcome students of any religion and the first to welcome women on equal terms with men. Today UCL has over 40,000 students and 12,500 staff and is one of the world’s top 10 universities. We have a culture of promoting diversity and sustainability and 30 Nobel laureates among our current and previous alumni.
Ranked fifth in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings by Subject for the last two consecutive years (2021 and 2022), and with several of our departments ranked 6th for Research Power in the recent REF 2021, the Faculty of Arts & Humanities (A&H) at UCL is recognised globally for both its teaching and research excellence.
We offer study at all levels - undergraduate, postgraduate taught and PhD - in our ten departments which, alongside the traditional arts and humanities disciplines housed within English, Philosophy, Greek & Latin, the Slade School of Fine Art and the School of European Languages, Culture & Society, also includes the departments of Hebrew & Jewish Studies, Information Studies, Arts & Sciences (offering the interdisciplinary BASc/MASc programmes), the School of Slavonic & East European Studies, and European & International Social & Political Studies.
