Job Title: Part-Time Family Law Clerk
Location: Shelburne, Ontario
Hours: Part-time, 2 full days per week (with potential to transition to full-time)

ABOUT US:

We are a small community-based law practice in Shelburne, Ontario, specializing in family law. Our goal is to provide compassionate and effective legal support to individuals and families in the community. We are looking for an experienced Family Law Clerk to join our team and support our growing client base.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

As a Family Law Clerk, you will work closely with our lawyer to provide administrative and legal support in family law matters. This is a part-time role, requiring a minimum commitment of two full days per week, with the potential to expand into a full-time position.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • 1 to 3 years of relevant work experience in a family law practice is required.
  • Strong knowledge of family law procedures, including court processes and documentation requirements.
  • Proficiency with legal software and tools such as DivorceMate and Clio is an asset.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact with clients empathetically and professionally.

EDUCATION:

  • Diploma or certificate in Law Clerk Studies, Paralegal Studies, or a related program.

Responsibilities:

  • Drafting and preparing legal documents, including pleadings, financial statements, affidavits, and agreements.
  • Managing and organizing client files, ensuring all records are accurate and up-to-date.
  • Filing court documents electronically or in person and meeting procedural deadlines.
  • Scheduling meetings, mediations, court appearances, and other appointments.
  • Communicating with clients, opposing counsel, and court staff in a professional manner.
  • Conducting preliminary research and gathering information for cases.
  • Ensuring compliance with family law rules, regulations, and procedures.
