OPPORTUNITY: WE ARE SEARCHING FOR A FAMILY PHYSICIAN TO JOIN THE UNIVERSITY OF TORONTO SCARBOROUGH’S HEALTH & WELLNESS CENTRE TEAM.
The Health & Wellness Centre at the University of Toronto at Scarborough is responsible for responding to the needs of a culturally diverse population of approximately 14,000 students. The Centre provides health promotion, individual and group counselling, navigation of care, psychiatry and primary care services to registered students.
We are looking for an experienced family physician with an interest in student health/transitional-age youth health. The successful candidate will work within our interdisciplinary team, which includes administrators, registered nurses, counsellor/therapists, health promotion professionals, psychiatrists and a navigation of care team (including a mental health nurse, a case coordinator, and a patient navigator) to provide consultation and collaborative care.
Key responsibilities of this role will include: providing primary care medical assessment and intervention; making appropriate referrals; possessing a good knowledge of the health related issues experienced in a diverse adolescent/young adult population; demonstrating a positive attitude, tact and diplomacy in interactions with individuals and departments; demonstrating the ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary team; the desire to become familiar with the delivery of health care in an academic organization; the ability to use a computer for patient information (electronic health record) and an ability to adapt to a technologically changing environment; proven ability to perform calmly and competently during emergency situations; and the ability to demonstrate flexibility during peak periods of workload.
Renumeration: Hourly (with incentive)
Responsibilities:
WE ARE INTERESTED IN MEETING CANDIDATES FOR THIS ROLE WHO HAVE STRONG CLINICAL SKILLS, IN ADDITION TO EXPERTISE AND EXPERIENCE IN:
- Providing primary response to health-related needs of the students of the Health Centre, in a friendly courteous manner (for example oral contraception options, IUD insertion, skin issues, periodic health visits, immunizations, specialist referrals, etc.).
- Maintaining patient charts in accordance with OMA and health records standards.
- Maintaining up-to-date OHIP/UHIP (University Health Insurance Plan) billing for office billing purposes.
- Initiating appropriate referrals to specialists’ offices.
- Performing calmly and competently under stress.
- Participating in the annual immunization programs.
- Working knowledge of OHIP billing codes, and the appropriateness of their use.
- Assisting with the preparation and submission of other health insurance claims to appropriate insurance providers.
CANDIDATES FOR THIS ROLE MUST:
- Be a graduate of a recognized School of Medicine, and unrestricted to practice in Ontario
- Have a minimum of 1-year of related experience working in a group practice setting
- Demonstrate a willingness and commitment to exemplifying Health & Wellness Centre mission, vison and values in a fast-paced, dynamic, team oriented, collegial and student focused environment
(familiarity with student services, student health, and student life at the University of Toronto is an asset)
