Description:
Island Health has an exciting Medical Leadership opportunity in the Department of Primary Care. This position encompasses two roles Medical Lead and Division Head combination, Comox Valley Campus, North Island Hospital. As a Medical Lead and Division Head for Family Practice reporting to the Department Head Island wide Primary Care and Site Medical Director at Comox Valley Hospital. There is also an expectation of continued clinical practice components to this position.
Reporting to and working collaboratively with the Department Head Primary Care, the Division Head works to achieve the highest possible quality of Primary care at the sites, within the scope of the division’s clinical services and in context of existing teams and resources.
Main responsibilities of this position:
Primary Care workforce planning: Collaboratively monitors and anticipates division workforce needs, and works with the Department Head and Medical Affairs to lead recruitments to address identified needs.
Practice standards: Leads development and routine monitoring of Family practice standards.
Research and education: Supports division members to conduct research and to provide Family practice education.
Individual practitioner quality (IPQ): Facilitates continuous improvement of IPQ by leading effective Credentialing and privileging activities, including in-depth reviews.
Continuing professional development (CPD) activities, including implementing the annual Departmental CPD plan for Continuing professional development (CPD) activities, including implementing the annual Departmental CPD plan for division members.
Practitioner performance enhancement activities, in collaboration with Enhanced Medical Staff Support (EMSS) team
Division meetings: Chairs four Primary Care Division meetings with focus on clinical practice and facilities based team building.
Reporting to and working collaboratively with the Site Medical Director at Comox Valley Hospital, the Medical Lead role works in co-leadership with operational decision makers, to optimize the quality and operations of the primary care services. In collaborative partnerships, the Medical Lead works proactively with others to enhance teamwork and to facilitate continuous quality improvement of Primary Care services within the Geography
Main responsibilities of this position:
1. Leadership: Co-leads and oversees activities to ensure service delivery is integrated within the site; Links with appropriate Departmental Medical Leaders to address matters of physician governance, including professional medical practice issues.
2. Operations & Quality: Co-monitors site performance with a focus on issues that arise between programs, and facilitates course corrections when necessary; Ensures appropriate investigation and resolution of site-related PSLS and PCQO events; Collaborates with Departmental Medical Leaders and Medical Affairs to address individual practitioner quality issues.
3. Change Management: Co-develops and implements change management plans to engage and support site physicians and staff through change.
4. Informatics: Oversees activities that advance technology and data use to improve service delivery within the site, in collaboration with the IHealth team and the Quality Systems team.
5. Planning: Assesses, monitors and anticipates site resource needs and works with medical leaders and administrative leaders to prioritize these needs within available resources.
6. Cultural Safety and Cultural Humility: Demonstrated commitment to one’s own journey of cultural humility and engages in conversations around cultural safety.
7. Will use LEADS based capabilities in delivery of services.
