Description:

PROGRAM: Healthy Beginnings
LOCATION: Kamloops, BC
STATUS: Temporary Part-Time
TERM: 3 months or until the return of the incumbent
HOURS of WORK: 20 hours per week
SCHEDULE: Monday to Friday, flexible schedule within the standard office hours of 8:30 am-4:30 pm with occasional work performed on the evenings or weekends to meet clients’ needs.
REPORTS TO: Healthy Beginnings Program Coordinator
COMPENSATION: $29.17 - $33.49 (Grid 12 as per collective agreement)
CLOSING DATE: Open until suitable candidate is found

ABOUT THE JOB:

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Family Support Worker for our Healthy Beginnings program.
This role supports community-based parent/child drop-in groups for families with children aged 0-6 years. You will create a welcoming and safe environment where families can connect and engage in positive activities.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Diploma or Degree (preferred) in Human Services, Early Childhood Education, or a related field
  • 2 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Group facilitation experience is essential

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong understanding of child development and early childhood education
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Strong ability to build a safe and trusting relationship with parents and children
  • Ability to manage group dynamics and create an inclusive, supportive atmosphere
  • Knowledge of Public Health Agency’s determinants of health (e.g. Mental Health, Injury Prevention, Nutrition, etc.)
  • Experience with crisis intervention and connecting families to resources
  • Knowledge and experience in coaching and modeling healthy and safe parenting skills and routines
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Strong documentation and computer skills

REQUIREMENTS

  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s license and safe driving record
  • Own vehicle with Business Use and $5 million liability insurance (Reimbursement for increased premiums are provided)
  • Consent to Criminal Record and Background Checks
  • Following training are required and provided to the successful candidate free of charge. Existing certification is an asset: CPR-C, Mandt, Safe Food Handling, MCFD Privacy, Anti-Bullying and Harassment.
  • This position requires frequent travel within the community to visit clients in their homes.
  • This position requires Union membership and 1.85% union dues are deducted from each pay.

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate weekly drop-in groups for parents/caregivers and their children (0-6 years)
  • Conduct weekly home visits to family’s homes
  • Provide infant massage sessions
  • Plan and organize activities, including healthy snacks, art, circle time, and song time
  • Set up and clean up the group space before and after each session
  • Model and coach positive parent/child interactions and parenting techniques
  • Provide resources, referrals, and support to families, including crisis intervention if needed
  • Support families in accessing community resources including transporting families where needed
  • Promote the program and participate in community events to build awareness
  • Collaborate with team members and other professionals to ensure high-quality service
