JOB INTRODUCTION

Metro.co.uk delivers news, features, sport, opinion, and shareable content to a fast-growing global audience and we are looking for a talented Features Writer to join the London team.
The successful candidate will be passionate about online first storytelling and have a distinctive, engaging and lively writing style, and enjoy a wide remit of features content, from hard-hitting interviews and news features to lifestyle trends.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Experience of working at a newspaper, news website, magazine or television news show
  • Ability to generate and develop ideas from scratch and turn copy around quickly if needed
  • Experience of working in a multiplatform or digital publishing environment
  • Have an inherent gut instinct for what makes a great story – and what elements of a story will play well for specific audiences, headlines etc
  • Knowledge of online research and analytics tools and digital CMS
  • An understanding of the Metro.co,uk brand, editorial voice and audience
  • Good knowledge of media law and the Editors’ Code of Practice

Responsibilities:

  • Writing on subject matter spanning news-driven topics including showbusiness, politics, celebrity, crime, and health as well as crafting evergreen, unique and real life content
  • Pitch, write and edit features and long reads
  • Forward plan effectively, identifying opportunities for compelling features
  • Working with picture and video desks and our audience team to find ways to illustrate and elevate ideas
  • Work on our award-winning Lifeline and Formula for Change campaigns
