Birmingham City University is a large and diverse place to study right in the heart of the vibrant city and we currently have an exciting opportunity for a Fees and Funding Manager to join our dynamic team within the newly formed Directorate of Student and Academic Services. The Directorate is responsible for ensuring that students have an excellent experience and provides services across the student and academic lifecycle from enrolment to graduation, covering everything from wellbeing services to ensuring new courses are set up correctly.
You will lead and manage a team of 6 staff and will report into the Head of Student Lifecycle. You will be responsible for the set up and accuracy of course fees in the student records system, funding contract requirements and statutory reporting (audits and compliance) and management of our responsibilities and key operational deliverables to fulfil external student funding bodies requirements for example the Student Loans Company, ELCAS, US Loans (Federal Aid).

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Educated to first degree level or able to demonstrate a combination of professional qualifications, skills, and experience at an equivalent level.
  • Knowledge of fees and funding within an educational setting, ideally Higher Education.
  • Experienced in the use of a students records system, in particular SITS.
  • Experience of managing and motivating a team of skilled staff, within a complex administrative role/team.
  • Able to communicate complex information to a wide variety of audiences in order to influence, achieve change where necessary and deliver results.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to produce effective operational work plans and manage team performance against these plans.
  • A commitment to a customer-centred approach (students, internal and external stakeholders) to service delivery.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including the ability to write high quality reports and deliver presentations to a wide range of audiences.

Job Description

Responsibilities:

Through effective management of the Fees and Funding team the manager will;

  • Lead and manage the Fees and Funding team on a day-to-day basis, providing a high standard of leadership and support.
  • Ensure wider team deliver services in line with policy and procedures and to set business deadlines driven by the annual cycle, statutory or regulatory requirements.
  • Be responsible for compliance and regulatory obligations pertaining to fees and funding, liaising with others internally and externally as required including writing of reports and data submissions.
  • Key liaison with external agencies to facilitate student applications and funding confirmation, and ensure compliance with evolving requirements, including gathering data and the co-ordination of returns as required. This may also include response to formal requests for information and complex query resolution.
  • Work collaboratively with Finance to ensure an annual calendar of activities and timelines are mapped out.
  • Drive change and systems improvements via automation and process review, engaging with key stakeholders.
  • Ensure the team has a robust understanding of all external requirements and funding bodies pertaining to funding for students e.g. Student Loans Company.
  • Lead and prepare for formal reviews and audits with external bodies.
  • Analyse data and report on meeting key service level agreements, ensuring a calendar of activity/tasks in place for the team.
  • Support staff development and also grow networks across HE to support sharing of best practice.
  • Lead on key projects for Fees and Funding functions.
  • Take part in working groups across the institution, providing expert fees and funding insight for example introduction of LLE.
