QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of a two-year diploma in Paramedic, Nursing, or allied healthcare related field.
  • Minimum of three years of work experience related to paramedical and/or medical practice.
  • Relevant work experience in a teaching and learning laboratory environment would be beneficial.
  • Critical thinking skills to support decision making and referral of issues to appropriate internal or external individuals.
  • Excellent organizational skills and multitasking
  • Capable of working independently and in a group.
  • Ability to be clear and concise with verbal and written communication skills.

    Hours: up to 24 hours per week, scheduled Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:00 am – 10:00 PM

Responsibilities:

The incumbent will act as a technical resource to support student learning in laboratories and simulation learning spaces within the Faculty of Health Sciences. They will acquire, organize, and maintain program and laboratory inventory. The incumbent is expected to perform duties in accordance with the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations including, but not limited to, wearing/using protective equipment, devices, and/or clothing. The employee is expected to report to their supervisor any safety concerns, unsafe conditions or acts and any contraventions of the Act or regulations. This includes, but is not limited to, any defects in, or the absence of, protective devices or equipment. The employee is also expected to maintain a safe, clean, and organized workspace.

  • Ensure a safe, clean, and organized workspace.
  • Collaborate with professors regarding equipment and supply needs to support learning activities and labs.
  • Control inventory to ensure laboratory requests and needs are met throughout the academic year.
  • Anticipate and determine supply and equipment needs.
  • Analyze quotes and prepare purchase requisitions.
  • Organize and maintain stock and storerooms.
  • Provide assistance as required to staff and students by demonstrating the operation of equipment, explaining procedures, and having knowledge of Durham College resources available if staff or students require referral.
  • Act as a technical resource to support student learning in laboratories and simulation learning spaces within the Faculty of Health Sciences, primarily the Paramedic Laboratories.
  • Ensure that equipment, simulators, and supplies are in good working condition and ready for use prior to scheduled learning activities/labs.
  • Acquire health and safety information as applicable and ensure current MSDS is readily available and accessible per established procedures.
  • Orientate and delegate assignments to work study students as appropriate.
  • Ensure that equipment, simulators, and supplies are disassembled, cleaned, and maintained in a secure manner following use by professors and students.
  • Arrange for maintenance and repair of laboratory equipment.
  • Research new product information through catalogue and on-line searches and obtain price quotes from sales representatives as required.
  • Completes purchase requisitions and places orders for approved supplies and equipment.
  • All other lab support, as required, within the Faculty of Health Sciences.
