Description:

We have an exciting opportunity at Thames Water to join our Thames Valley and Home Counties Water System Performance Network team as a Field Engineer. In this hands-on role, you will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the water network, from routine maintenance to complex investigations and issue resolution.
This role follows an out-of-hours shift pattern (20:00 – 06:00), offering a unique opportunity to work on essential water systems when demand is low. If you’re passionate about problem-solving and keeping vital infrastructure running smoothly, we’d love to hear from you!
Due to the nature of this role, you will be expected to travel across a wide area of Thames Valley.

Responsibilities:

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING AS THE FIELD ENGINEER

  • Undertaking a series of tasks to enable the identification and resolution of system leakage. (step testing, partitioning of DMA’s (planning & creation of LCA’s), flow/flush testing of district meters, boundary valve validation, waste meter maintenance & logging, sounding, correlation, pressure & flow logger deployment)
  • Undertaking a series of tasks to enable the identification and resolution of system issues impacting levels of service such as Poor Water Quality, Poor Pressure Burst Pipes etc.
  • Undertaking a series of tasks to investigate and resolve customer enquiries and complaints. Taking ownership of the issue and seeing it through to resolution. This may require attendance and customer appointments and to undertake investigations within customer premises.
  • Undertaking routine activities to support day-to-day operations including mains isolation, leak and pressure investigations, customer appointments etc.
  • Safety & Wellbeing – Ensuring that all work is carried out by the TW safety standards and guidance.
  • Water Quality – Ensuring that all work is undertaken to the highest WQ standards.
  • Asset Standards – Ensuring that all work is completed in accordance with the appropriate asset standard and best-practice guidance.
    Base Location: Kidlington, OX5 1QT.
    Working pattern: 36 hours - Monday to Thursday, from 20:00 to 06:00.

WHAT YOU SHOULD BRING TO THE ROLE

  • Appropriate educational level/qualification (e.g., NVQ Level 2 / City & Guilds / GCSE) or equivalent experience in either a water network or leakage role.
  • Understanding of key Company operating procedures relevant to specific roles.
  • Ability to use company IT systems and office software, in particular Excel. (to manage plant hire list)
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, to interact with your colleagues and customers/stakeholders.
  • An uncompromising approach to Health, Safety and Wellbeing.
  • Passion and understanding of how to deliver exceptional customer experiences.
  • Must hold full UK driving licence.
